Any CF'ers have a $1000 deductible on your cars? We recently came into a third vehicle (large SUV)which will be driven less often than our primary cars. If I do a $1000 deductible on it it will be $310 per 6 months ($620 per year). If I do a $500 deductible like on our other cars it will be $530 per 6 months ($1060 per year). My logic is I save $440 in the first year alone by having a $1000 deductible. What do you guys think?
Go with the higher deductible, assuming you can afford to pay $1000, or live without it in the event you did have an accident in it.
This is a no-brainer to go with the cheaper insurance. You'd be paying $440 to save $500 if you happen to get in a wreck. So if you don't get into a wreck, you save $440. If you do get into a wreck, you lose $60.
i went with the $1000 deductible now that my car is older. Has already saved me a lot over 2 years...like you said, about $400 per year. edit: and I think the "3rd car not driven very often" would have the same end result as having 1 older car, in my book
Third card is a large suv which we will use here and there for moving us and the folks or us plus my sister's family if we are all going to one place.
Well, I would rate my personal accident risk. Have you had an accident lately? Do you drink and drive? Do you have a teen? Where will this vehicle be parked? Will it be parked in the garage or outside in a neighborhood with high auto theft rate? Keep it at 500. Else keep it at $1000. I haven't had an accident in years. I never drink. I have no teenagers. It's parked at my house, but their isn't much auto theft.
