I'm looking for some help from anyone who is a reporter or writer for a semi-large (at a minimum) organization or publication that is willing to publish/present a story about an egregious wrongdoing taking place in our state.

Children with autism are being denied services by an insurance company in our state for outrageous reasons DESPITE a state mandate to provide these services and I'm trying to see what I can do to help them bring attention to their cause.

You can email me through the board if you have a way to help.

Lisa Oberg, Ted Olsen, Randy Wallace, Isiah Carey... I think they're the big investigative journalists in Houston.

Not sure if that's the type of pub you want or if it helps much.

I wish I have a way to help. Any petition signing to get attention?

Find a local angle and pitch that way. For example a family to put a face on it... Best of luck..

I know some.. Depends on your city. Also consider weeklies.

Houston press, Dallas observer, Fort Worth weekly, San Antonio current. Reporters at alternative media are more accessible and more open minded... Many are more willing to fight the good fight. They have less golden calves as well.

Have you spoken with anyone affiliated with one of the major autism societies/foundations?

Jeff Balke writes for the Press, maybe he could help?

I don't know any reporters at Chronicle, but know some people either still there or people who know people still there. Probably not much help, but feel free to email me through the board with more info if you want me to pursue.

This CMCS Informational Bulletin may be helpful as a resource.

DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH & HUMAN SERVICES
Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services
7500 Security Boulevard, Mail Stop S2-26-12
    Baltimore, Maryland 21244-1850

I do not know the specifics of your situation but this bulletin was issued as a result of some states and providers denying access to services.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to post.

Rash, thanks. I'm aware of the Medicaid availability, but unfortunately it is very limited in what it covers.

Texas is actually rather progressive on this issue and has a mandate (with exceptions big enough for a space station) that insurance companies MUST cover generally recognized treatment for ASD, including ABA therapy, speech, OT, etc. Unfortunately, there is a company here in Texas that is skirting this mandate by using every single method they can to frustrate parents into giving up.

Yet, we have many who don't believe regulation of business is necessary...
