    Michael Jackson's Neverland Ranch Searched

    LOS OLIVOS, Calif. - Investigators armed with a search warrant swarmed Michael Jackson Neverland Ranch on Tuesday, a sheriff's official said. The purpose of the search was not disclosed.

    Authorities carried out the warrant at the 45-year-old singer's sprawling home in the Santa Ynez Valley outside of Santa Barbara, said a sheriff's spokesman, who declined to give his name. The Santa Barbara County district attorney's office was also involved in the action, he added.

    Jackson's spokesman, Stuart Backerman, did not answer his cell phone and did not immediately return messages Tuesday.

    The singer who had international hits with the albums "Thriller" (1982), "Bad" (1987) and "Dangerous" (1991), saw his career begin to collapse in 1993 amid allegations he molested a boy. Jackson has maintained his innocence, and charges were never filed. He reportedly paid a multimillion-dollar settlement.

    Jackson is also connected to Hollywood private eye Anthony Pellicano, who began serving federal prison time Monday for possessing illegal explosives. Pellicano is being investigated about whether he secretly taped conversations of celebrities and their lawyers.

    Pellicano, 59, worked for Jackson as a spokesman and security consultant during the abuse investigation.

    The search came on the same day Epic Records released "Number Ones," a greatest hits collection featuring Jackson's new single, "One More Chance." On Nov. 26, CBS is scheduled to air a Jackson special consisting mainly of old concert footage.

    Jackson's Neverland Ranch Searched by Police


    BREAKING NEWS: Various news outlets on Tuesday reported that Michael Jackson's Neverland Ranch near Santa Barbara was "swarmed" by policemen in conjunction with an unspecified criminal investigation. Santa Barbara police served a search warrant at the singer's sprawling compound at 8:30 a.m. PST, with more than 20 investigators arriving to inspect Jackson's $12 million home; two hours later, the search was still reportedly underway. While a prepared statement from the Santa Barbara police and district attorney's offices would not specify anything further than an "ongoing criminal investigation," Court TV reported on its web site that the search was in connection with abuse allegations brought forward by a 12-year-old boy (a charge that the Associated Press said it could not yet confirm). Jackson's spokesperson, Stuart Backerman, issued a short statement saying the pop star and his three children were not at the ranch but are currently residing in Las Vegas, where they have been living for three weeks while Jackson films a video. Backerman declined further comment on the search, citing a lack of information about the investigation.
