I about to leave for skiing and I was wondering if anyone knows the fastest route to Taos from Austin or Houston? Anything would help. Mapquest isn't getting it done.
maps.google.com From Austin, take I35 north, take 287N thru Decatur to Amarillo Take I40W towards Las Vegas Take 84N To Taos Or something along those lines....
DUDE! We are doing the exact same thing. 6 of us are driving from Austin to Eagle Nest, New Mexico in a van. We aren't going to Taos because they only allow Skiing, and I'm a snowboarder. Not sure exactly where we are headed (which peast), but my buddy knows. Sucks they haven't gotten much snow.
not to rain on everyone's parade, but there is zero snow other than man-made in new mexico. is it too late to change your plans?
id just take I-35 to ft. worth and than 287 west to amarillo. stay on 287, going north towards dumas (huh huh, you said dumb-ass). at dumas take 87 west and stay on it into new mexico. hopefully you can hit that part of new mexico in the day b/c its a beautiful drive. anyway, you will hit I-25 at raton and from there just take 64 into taos. ive only been once and it was summer, but we had a good time camping around there. theres a bunch of hot springs in the area too.
Yeah, that's fine with me. It does suck though, I know they've have very low amounts and that a lot of the runs are closed. Do you live in NM? Any snow is good for me as long as I can board.
Two buddies of mine just got back from New Mexico (they went to different ski areas) both said the condition were total shiet ~ muddy brown slush. I'd do whatever I could to hightail it up to N. Colorado.
yeah, but I think Colorado is out of the question. We were originally going to go to Brickenridge, (sp?) but ended up choosing NM because it's closer. Hearing your take on it is not very enticing. But we just bought a bunch of liqour for the trip. We're driving on Sunday, and already have reservations.
If it's really bad in NM, you could hit Wolf Creek (So Co). Not sure about nightlife there though, it was nonexistent a while back (15 years) but the general area has had a lot of development, IIRC.
Sounds like you will be going to Angelfire or Red River. I just got back from Red River about 3 weeks ago. Great little town with very friendly people.
