Besides the usual tourist stuff (Capital, bats, UT, etc..), can you guys suggest some cool stuff to do for a day visit? Will be bringing a first time visitor to Austin!

    Restaurants? Sites? Shops?

Go to Trudy's and get a Mexican Martini. Yummy. :D

You also have to go to Rudy's BBQ. I think there's a couple there now. Good stuff.

BTW, the Salt Lick and Luling City Market aren't in Austin and Rudy's is gas station BBQ.

Mann's BBQ is good. If you want something a bit more upscale, try Chez Nous or Fonda San Miguel.

if you like ribs... you cannot go wrong with Artz. It's within city limits off of Lamar. That way, you can have more time to do tourist stuff. On the other hand, I am generally in need of a long nap after eating at Artz, so it just maybe counterproductive.

    Food is mediocre, though.

Depends on what your friend wants to do (outdoors-y or more of a live music person?) and what they want to eat (upscale, college-food, BBQ, mexican, etc.) Austin's great because it can cater to just about everyone.

Does your one day include the time you spend on I35 stuck in traffic?

How about 2 weeks in Austin for a biz trip? I've been told 6th street for bars and parties near UT. Is Htown a long drive?

6th street is pretty much for the college kids... there are some swanky places on the 4th though.

How about nature spots that are beautiful to showcase the hills?

As for food places, it doesn't matter, but was looking for 'must-eat-here' venues.

    Mt. Bonnell looks beautiful!
