OK, not to start up the great debate over the best burger chain again, but for those who are interested, they're opening one up just north of campus at 3208 Guadalupe! I'm not sure when it opens, I just happened to see it while driving this evening. Anyone have any more info?
i finally had them a couple of weeks ago. they were good but In N out is better just my opinion though
I was about to post the exact same question. I tried the Mighty Fine on Mopac and Parmer and have to say it was very good. I've never tried the Five Guys' chain, though.
I see the billboard for it all the time, but I've never been to Mighty Fine. I heard it's owned by Rudy's - is this true? I've been meaning to go there, but that might make it a little more imperative.
It's very possible that they're owned by the same people. I can't be sure, though. The food was very good and they have pretty good shakes/lemonade.
There's one that opened up near me in Portland, OR Last week. I've been looking forward to it for the last 3 months and it was mass hysteria as expected when it first opened and lines were out the door and around the building so I obviously avoided it. I planned on going in this week but after reading the reviews (Portland food forums, citysearch etc) from the people that went .... I am less than thrilled to say the least. I'll still go just to go and try it but some posters on here have talked about it in the past and have said it's the greatest thing ever. From what I read this is my consensus... Although very large the fries are soggy... sickly sweet buns (like the kind that you have at a outdoor picnic/bbq). Burgers are well done and well done only (no pink) ? If I order a burger and fries it's gonna be like $8-9 right? I already know I'll wonder why I didn't just go to Red Robin (It's because 5 guys just opened so I had to give it a shot despite the fact that it's just average)... Furthermore I'm not a calorie counter by any means but 1 cheeseburger= 980 Calories and 59 G of fat with 26.5 of those being Saturated those 26.5 grams make up 132% of daily vaule. YIKES! I think I just got fatter just thinking about that.
I think there have been like a total 15 Five Guys Burgers threads on this message board. They do make a tasty burger though.
Compared to Red Robin's Gourmet Cheeseburger that has 850 calories and 49 g fat? Yes 5 Guys is worse, but really... you're not doing yourself much of a favor by choosing Red Robin either...
You're missing my point. Anyways, I just had Five guys burger today for the first time and it's decent but not anything to write home about. It actually reminded me a lot of a Wendy's burger except with a bigger patty and freshly prepared. For being so highly reviewed I thought the patty would have more flavor but it was very bland as if it weren't even seasoned at all. Fries were pretty tasty though.
Just went to Mighty Fine for the first time. They live up to their name. One of the best burgers I've ever had...milkshake was outstanding, too. Apparently, there's another new place in N. Austin called Mooyah's that's supposed to be very good as well...
I went last week, it was great, awesome french fries. I actually think the fries are better than Mighty Fine.
When I went to UT-Austin, about a million years ago, it was all about the OT Special at Dirty's. Used to taste mighty damn fine after 20 beers.
Well, you'll be happy to know that Dirty Martin's is still alive and kicking. I prefer Player's since it's a little less greasy.
I went last weekend and was disappointed considering how much you guys pumped it up. I had a bacon cheeseburger and fries. Nothing even vaguely interesting about either. The fries were so salty you would think they were trying to preserve them for next winter. Overall it was okay. Factor in price and its beat by almost every other place I frequent.
I was at Circuit City in Cedar Park (closing store), I noticed they were building a Carls Jr in that center!
Of all the burger places mentioned in this thread: Mighty Fine > Five Guys > Dirty Martin's > Player's. Never had the others.
Carl's Jr is terrible. Nobody eats that crap out here on the West Coast. Now, Taco Bueno -> that stuff is amazing.
Anybody who is concerned about the nutritional info probably shouldn't be going out to eat a burger and fries.
