if this has been discussed before i apoligize. but it occured to me recently that ive personally dont remember any talk of austin ever being mentioned for any type of professional sport team.

ive read lately that austin has now the 11th largest population in the U.S. and the four (really 3) major sports all have about thirty teams or so. the only problem i can think of would be that there are not many large suburbs around austin besides round rock.

anyone else have any reasons or ideas?

Austin is nowhere near the 11st largest city in America.

It's too small for pro sports.

UT might as well be a pro sports franchise for austin. that is the real reason why. plus we are surrounded by SA, Dallas, and Houston.

Austin's actually the 16th largest city in America, right in between Columbus, OH and Memphis, TN.

You could also say that Sacramento is surrounded by San Francisco, San Jose, and Oakland... ;)

Yeah but you need to look at the entire metro area. In that respect, it comes in 38th, right behind the metropolis of Greensboro-Winston Salem, North Carolina. What's worse for Austin is that there's a bigger metro area with only one sports team about an hour south of there in San Antonio. The 4th biggest metro area in Texas isn't going to be getting pro sports. It's a "AAA town".

hehe, you're talking to a guy that didn't know the Golden State Warriors played in Oakland for the longest time... :)

I always thought the Titans played in Memphis for some reason...

it's 38th. Looking at only the city proper is not right. You have to look at the entire market.

I like it how people from Dallas still think they live in the biggest city in Texas, when they've even been passed up by San Antonio as of 2005...

Not necessarily a good thing, but I'm sure Houston will pass up Dallas soon (especially with all the Katrina people).
