Mentioned in the other thread (sort of), but Epic's Shadow Complex will be released this month as well (8/19 I believe). Seems like there have been a few nice downloadable games here recently.

 

Sorry about that. When I kept up with these threads, the dates actually made sense. Reviews for July would be posted by the end of July. Previews for August would be posted in August. Some overlap still, but at least if you were posting in the July thread, it was likely in July. Now I'm doing good just to get them out the second week of each month...which strangely seems OK at times since IIRC a lot of the better games don't come out until around then anyway.

Steam and Direct2Drive are having some sales for "Indie" games for the PC. Here they are:

There is some overlap between the two offers, but I think they're probably still worth getting despite that. Unfortunately, I already bought some of the games a little while back (Braid, World of Goo), but I went ahead and got both packs since it still seems like a good deal. Unfortunately, I think both end pretty soon (today I think?).

Of course...that is making me think of a new thread...how big is your backlog? Mine is pretty bad.

 

I didn't forget it. It just didn't meet my "retail release only" rule. Granted, I mentioned Shadow Complex, but that's just an exception for popular titles (especially those from well-known developers). Actually, when I made the comment about "a few nice downloadable games," I was thinking about Fat Princess, along with a few others (either released or soon to be released).

Also, Fat Princess came out in July technically IIRC, and I sort of left a comment about it in the July thread too (another "some notable downloadable games being released this month" comment). Although I can't remember if I knew for sure that it was going to be a July release at the time.

 

I actually got it 2-3 years ago for like $5. Can't really find it for a reasonable price anymore though (wonder why?). Maybe eBay, but that's about it (still likely to be >$30). Of course, I'm excluding the possibility of finding it in at local Gamestop, or other used game retailer.

Sony/Konami announced it for the PSN at some point I believe, but like practically everything else, it hasn't been released (at least in the US). They seem to be putting out more games recently though, so maybe it will be released somewhat soon (6-12 months?).

There is a "reimagining" of SH1 coming out soon, for the PS2, PSP, and Wii IIRC (called SH: Shattered Memories), but that's probably not what you want. Maybe play SH2 or SH3 instead (SH2 was better than SH1 IMO anyway). Still hard to find, but not too bad (Gamestop has SH2 for $15). Or maybe you already played those?

SH1 can be scary simply due to the PS1's limited graphical capabilities. Only the systems of that era could render monsters that looked that horrific.
