With the deadline rapidly approaching, I thought it was time to list all those players that might be available. Some will be solid players & there might be a surprise or two. Anyway, using HoopsHype as my source for contract lengths & size (take the reliability of the site for what it's worth to you),& looking at the player's age/production this last year & the teams cap situation, I came up with this list of players. If I've left some out, please add them to the mix. SALARIES Boston: Raef LaFrentz - 4 years @ $45+ million New Jersey: None New York: Allen Houston - 2 years @ just under $40 million Philadelphia: Aaron McKie - 3 years @ $19.5 million Toronto: Jalen Rose - 2 years @ $32.5 million Chicago: None Cleveland: Eric Snow (maybe?) - 4 years @ $25.5 million Detroit: While they're over the cap, I can't see them cutting anyone Indiana: Austin Croshere - 2 years @ $18.5 million (possibly Bender) Milwaukee: None Atlanta: None Charlotte: None Miami: None Orlando: Doug Christie in the last year of his contract will be of more value at the trade deadline. How about Hedo Turkoglu - 5 years @ $33.8 million? Washington: None Dallas: Michael Finley - 3 years @ $51.5 million Houston: None - (Maybe Howard - 4 years @ $26.6 million?) Memphis: None New Orleans: None San Antonio: Rasho Nesterovic - 4 years @ $30.4 million Denver: None Minnesota: None Portland: Derek Anderson - 2 years @ $18.8 million (I bet I got this one right ) Seattle: None (Maybe Danny Fortson - 2 years @ $13.3 million?) Utah: None Golden State: Adonal Foyle - 5 years @ $40.5 million (If only we'd had the amnesty program during Cato's early years & all of Taylor's years. This is GS's chance to correct a mistake.) Clippers: None Lakers: Brian Grant - 2 years @ $30 million Phoenix: None Sacramento: None Oh well, there it is. As best as I can guess. See anyone you'd like the Rockets to pick up?
I like Finley and Snow, and I think they should keep Howard and cut other player (Bowen, Wesley, etc)
The Rockets will most likely keep Howard, but this is a one time offer & you never know. Bowen was just resigned & waiving any player in his last year makes no sense. There'll always be a team looking to dump salary at the trade deadline.
If Memphis cut Eddie Jones, I would love to have him, even though we are much better manned at guard than anywhere else...you can always use defensively sound, smart backcourt players.
Of these I think the most realistic LLE signings who could contribute would be Allen Houston or Aaron McKie, if they could past physicals from our fairly conservative docs. Christie is another, there is a lot of talks he is set up for Dallas. Derrick Fisher for an LLE might be another amnesty rule created possibility.
Jaen Rose would be a perfect fit in Houston...this guy can knock down open shots like nobody in this league....its when he tries to be the man that he suffers ...i have never seen anyone as good as him in knocking down open jumpers...okay maybe i have...though still he will be a perfect fit.. his D is a little weak....though when motivated he can do an effective job....needs to play for a winner to get the most out of him....and plus he's getting paid 18M this year and won't be looking for money.
If the rockets don't cut anybody this off-season, can they use it next year or a couple years from now? Just wondering if anybody knew the answer to this question.
the rockets would've never used it for cato or taylor b/c they weren't in luxury tax territory and even if they had moved into it, it's unlikely they would wanna pay semi-productive players to play somewhere else. hedo turkoglu is a solid player and probably worth $6M/yr, or at least close to it. and he has 4 years remaining. the magic aren't going to pay him for the next 4 years, and take the cap hit, for a guy who is worth his contract. guys who get cut we'll either be by teams desperately in luxury tax territory (nyk or mavs) or be completely useless (spoon on our team would make sense) or already off the team (zo in toronto). you can't just cut productive players, and pay them, especially if you aren't that much into the LT zone. or at least i never would.
I know this has been asked a million times: Does the new contract deduct the pay from the other team?
i think you are mistaken....this guys EGO is huge...getting a ring and bragging about it to people means a lot to guys like him.
I think Vin Baker will be cut for LT reasons. Pickup a 2/3 to fill out the 15 man roster. Then wait for the trade deadline to see what Ward, Moochie, Wesley and Spoon will get you as a pg upgrade.
The union lost in it's effort to allow complete double dipping by players. The final agreement provides for a percentage of the player's new team salary to be deducted from the amount his old team has to pay him. I don't know if it's accurate, but the only formula I've seen was something like: 1.New team salary 2.Minus vet's minimum 3.Diivde that amount by 2 4.The resulting amount is subtracted from his old team salary, reducing the obligation of his old team. Perhaps someone can confirm or shoot down this formula as inaccurate, but the fact that a player can't completely double dip makes it more likely that amnesty players would avoid teams that only have minimums available. Unless they truly are only about winning...
I'd think this would make players less concerned about what their new team paid them. The difference between the LLE and MLE would only be about 1.6 million for one year. If you're already getting 15+ million like Finley, that's not so much.
