Wednesday October 3 11:25 AM ET Auerbach Returns As Celtic President BOSTON (AP) - Red Auerbach is again the Boston Celtics' team president, a title he held for 27 years before it was given to former coach Rick Pitino. ``We thought it was right and proper,'' Celtics spokesman Jeff Twiss said Wednesday. ``It was returning it to its rightful owner, in a sense.'' The 84-year-old Auerbach was head coach of the Celtics from 1950-66, winning nine NBA titles. He served as general manager from 1950-84, and president from 1970-97. When Pitino arrived in 1997, Auerbach became vice chairman of the board and Pitino assumed duties as president. Pitino resigned as coach and president in January after 31/2 seasons in which Boston went 102-146 and failed to make the playoffs. Its about damn time
Geez, Red Auerbach is still alive? He's been smoking cigars for 50 years! It's weird, some people get major lung cancer after smoking for only a few years, and some people can smoke for their entire lives and live to be 95... If not the tobacco, you would think that he'd be dead after watching so many bad Celtics teams the past few years...
