http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2006/01/aubrey_huff_to_.html Would be a nice little addition. Can play anywhere on the field pretty much.
I'd assume Lane or Taveras would be in the deal; otherwise, yeah, that's just way too many players for the four 1B/OF spots.
well, i am guessing mcclane and purpura are planning to proceed on the assumption that they are bagwell-less, and this seems like a decent, relatively cheap replacement.
He had one down year; otherwise, his career numbers are fantastic and he has the kind of plate discipline along with his power that Jason Lane can only dream about. Yes, it's a huge upgrade to Lane or Taveras if that's the move.
Maybe we can give them Burns for Huff straight-up. The best GM ever just signed Dan Miceli to a two year deal, so it's obvious he's smoking something good.
If you're a team like the Astros, this is the kind of move you have to make if you want to have an elite offense. We don't have the prospects to get an Adam Dunn. We don't have the revenue to afford Manny Ramirez or even Miguel Tejada. You have to buy low, sell high and take advantage of when opposition players are undervalued and your own players are overvalued. Before last year, Huff's last three seasons: 2002: .313, 23 HR, .364 OBP, .884 OPS 2003: .311, 34 HR, .367 OBP, .922 OPS 2004: .297, 29 HR, .360 OBP, .853 OPS It's not a fluke when you do it three years in a row. On the other hand, Jason Lane was so streaky that he couldn't even stay in the lineup during his bad stretches (May). He's a right-handed hitter whose numbers are slightly inflated by the Crawford Boxes. He has zero plate discipline along with a high strikeout rate, so you don't get a lot of quality at-bats either. Huff, however, had one bad year in the horrible baseball town of Tampa where it's incredibly easy to lose focus... it's not time to give up on him. The more I think about it, the more excited I get... a power-hitter with plate discipline that's left-handed? That would be incredible, though obviously it's not exactly a credible rumor at this point in time.
who reports on this website? have they ever been in the know regarding trades or is this just some random guys' opinion?
Well he is an upgrade over 2 of our OF spots IMO....1 for certain (Lane...he is better than Willie but I dont think im ready to give up on another speedy CF this early on a la Lofton). So assuming that either WT or Lane is involved, thats where he would play.
We have five players currently at the 1B/OF spots: Berkman, Wilson, Lane, Taveras and Bagwell. Out of those five, Huff is likely better than all but Berkman. He's not necessary, but he'd sure be nice to have and a very nice upgrade.
If we can somehow get Adam Everett involved in this deal, I'd like it better. But giving up on Taveras after only 1 year is a mistake.
Those are the people fighting for starting positions, at least. Don't forget Lamb as a possible 1B and people like Palmiero getting playing time here and there... as well as Chris Burke. I firmly believe that the Astros were lobbying hard for a package deal to get Tejada, setting themselves up into a position where their bench gets overloaded.
That website sucks. One guy just makes up websites from fantasy world. Its like the hoopsworld of baseball.
That's my late Christmas wish... Upgrade the OF and get Tejada while keeping Berkman, Ensberg, Biggio and all of our SPs. Roger just might come back for 1 more year if this were to happen.
