So my attic door hangs what looks to be about 1 inch low.

Will tightening the springs fix this?

.....how do i tighten the springs?

Is it as simple as closing the door and tightening the bolt in the center of my picture?

    Thanks

I don't know the answer but need to as the house I just moved into does the same thing. They put a nice heavy duty metal stair on it and I think its a tad too heavy.

Mine in my old house did the same thing. I bought a large window latch, installed the pieces, and then could latch it closed. Easy and created a tight seal (I think I added so,e padding around the does to improve the seal, too. The only problem was my short wife could never open it.

I'm not an expert on this but it doesn't look like there is enough thread left on the hook to increase the tension. You could try to shorten all the way and see if it helps. if not, you will need to replace the springs.

That's what it looks like to me, unless there's a way to adjust the tension on the other end of the spring. Hard to tell from pictures.

My attic ladder looks like it's about to snap. It will at the very least seriously injure me someday.

While we're on this subject, you guys should also build or buy an attic stair cap/cover. This will seal the hole and save you some $$$ on electricity.

yeah there isn't much thread left but there is some. I'll try adjusting though and see how it goes.

Any advice on doing so? don't want to break anything or the spring snapping and killing me lol

Go up there with a flash light. Have someone close the attic door and check for blockage and alignment. If it's not those, tighten the spring on each side in equate increment while observing for the gap to close. There should be locking nut that you'll need to loosen first before you can adjust.

You need to fix that soon, because ceiling cat is watching you.
