My 8 year old just popped a bully in the eye and gave him a black eye. This bully was pushing my boy and calling him names. He was at PE, and the coaches were not supervising the kids, but rather, chatting away. I have to admit, I have mixed feeling about the situation. I'm not upset at my boy, because I've always taught him to defend himself. I actually feel pretty good that he can defend himself, but am a little worried that he might get beat up later. The question I have is do I let the school stick him in ISS for defending himself, or do I fight it(no pun intended)?
Let them punish him...he shouldn't think you can solve stuff like that with violence...the fact that you know he can take care of himself if need be, is good enough. If this kid is the school bully....and he has pulled this with other kids but always got his way so to speak, then I'd fight it and make sure that the bully gets whatever your kid gets as far as punishment
If you have told the teachers and the principal about the bullying and they didnt do anything about it.....stand up for him. A kid should be able to have fun while learning and not be afraid of some kid picking on him or her. Also I would make sure that fighting isnt th eanswer unless he is being hit first (which I know you have already done). Good luck
Give him a beer and spend the rest of the day drunkenly celebrating his victory. Then for the rest of his life he'll associate alcohol with violence and good times...as it should be. Nah kidding.... praise him for standing up for himself but make sure he understands you don't condone violence unless it's in self defense. Good luck!
No reason he should go to ISS if he was getting assaulted. Tell the school you'd be happy to sue their asses: if the coaches had been paying attention the incident never would have happened.
That's great! When I was younger I used to get picked on from time to time by a couple of punk ass kids with the occasional punch or two and I would just laugh it off, despite it pissing me off. I wish my personality then would have been the type to not take that kind of **** as it is now (though I suppose being 6'3"+ and ~200lbs now certainly helps )
Thanks for helping to make public schools suck and my taxes higher. Parents need to stand up more for the school, and not their precious Tyler or Taylor.
I did the same thing when I was a kid. I was about 10-11 and an older kid kept picking on me every day, so I took one of those big, red plastic baseball bats to his head when I had enough. Oddly enough, it was right in front of the teacher and she just smiled and took me to the principles office. I was never punished. They just called my mom who, just like they did, sat me down and told me that violence is no way to solve things. I've pretty much had the same attitude ever since. I'll put up with alot of sh** but, if you finally cross that line with me, then there is no telling what I will do and you better watch your back.
I don't understand this. I think bullies make the schools suck, and taxes go up because teachers don;t supervise their kids and allow **** like this to happen. I will stand up for my precious son ANYDAY for his taking care of himself when nobody else will.
Try being a teacher and you would. Breaking the rules have consequences. He broke the rules. Get over it.
Most bullies only pick on kids who are too scared to defend themselves. Once a kid defends himself, the bully will most likely move on to another kid who doesn't have such a devastating right jab.
I am a teacher. Certified PE, English and History. Been doing it for 13 years now. I've never had a fight break out on in my class or gym. Why? BECAUSE I SUPERVISE THE KIDS! NOT CHAT WITH OTHER PE AIDES. How long have YOU been a teacher?
