Just an FYI... One company found a way to get it's spyware 'past' Ad-Aware...it just uninstalls it! LOL Attention! Radlight uninstalls Ad-aware On April 22, 2002, Nicolas Stark, the developer of Ad-Aware, in concert with several researchers working with LavaSoft has discovered a shocking new evolution in the war against spyware. Radlight, INC, developers of the multimedia player Radlight v3.03R5 have included code that not only looks to see if the user has Ad-Aware or Ad-Aware Plus installed on their systems, but also will uninstall and delete every trace of Ad-Aware; including the following: ALL Ad-aware components all files all subfolders all log files, and desktop/start menu shortcuts. They DELIBERATELY target any installation of Ad-Aware! And have included, in their license agreement, a stipulation that any user of their software MUST uninstall our software or have it forcibly removed. This attack has further been confirmed to occur when either free or Plus version is unloaded. This is nothing less than an attack on Ad-Aware, LavaSoft and the entire privacy and security community. So in “light” of this action on their part we will now add Radlight to Ad-Aware’s target list. Under no circumstances can we allow any Malware application to purposely remove our Software! Nor will we allow our users to be attacked in this manner! We consider Igor Janos’s "Radlight 3.03 R5" software to be nothing more than Malware. Our position has been echoed by many in the privacy community, and has been further affirmed by Radlight’s removal from C|Net. Removing software from the users system without requesting permission is a very serious issue. - And is a violation of fundamental privacy rights. You are welcome to join the discussion regarding this matter at our support forum. An updated reference file and a new AAW distribution, which will not be removed by the current Radlight version, are available for download now. Despite the fact that the third party software bundled with Radlight is optional, our users are not given the same consideration. The only change in Janos’s position has been with his newest release of RADLIGHT v3.03R5.2 which now informs the user about its intention to uninstall Ad-aware with the following options: · Uninstall Ad-Aware, · Or have it forcibly removed after installing Radlight (not an issue with the latest reflist file and new AA distribution), · Or to not install and use the Radlight software.
