    Well,

    I am still doing Atkins, although in a modified format, I am currently at 179 pounds on my way to 170 ish....

    I have lost all my love handles, am noticbly thinner, and feel better than ever.

    Also, I have begun having ice cream, chocolate, & some breads, just in reduced quantities to what I used to eat.

    One side note is that at the age of 39, I have gained nearly all my quickness back in basketball. No longer am I camped at the 3 point line, but am a back cutting scoring machine !!!

    I thought those days were gone....glad to have them back.

    Atkins has taught me how my body reacts to carbohydrates, and as an informed person, I can control my weight without being hungry...

    Of course, I still have not had a soda in 3 months.....oh well !!

    DaDakota,
    How much did you weigh at the start again? Congrats on your progress.

    I've been thinking about trying Atkins but what I've been doing lately seems to be working. I started at 223-224 and am now at 191 (as of a few days ago).

    DD,

    I've backed-off a little like you, and am holding steady at about 13 pounds off. I will be prob go back on induction phase and regular aerobic exercise in another week to drop another 10 or 15.

    Do you work out too? Golds?

    Since the start of June I've been on a diet/exersize plan. I started out at about 185, and have gone down to 125.

    I can relate to your increased energy and strength, and I love the way people have noticed the big change in me.

    Good luck in getting to your goal and keeping it off.

    I started at 205, and more then anything it has been a learning experience.

    I now know what the body burns for energy and in what order, and how to get my body to burn fat.

    Edumating to say the least.

    :)

    not on atkins but might at well share my dieting story here as well. I was 225 I believe some where around those lines, now I'm down to about 175. Been dieting since Mid July. I want to get down to about 170 than hope to keep that. Ill stick with 170 to much below that than I'd think Ill be to skinny. What a change since summer :)

    I don't think you need to read the whole thing.

    Just enough to:

    1) understand the role/body's handling of carbs, protein and fat;
    2) what puts you into ketosis (and why it's important);
    3) what you can eat in each phase.

    I only scanned a few chapters, but I've heard much of this stuff before.

    Did I miss anything DD?

    I didn't even get into it that much Cohen.

    I just limited my carbs, pretty much stayed in induction with occasional days off....like today for instance.... :)

    And the weight just drops off.

    I like understanding the concepts so I would know what's going on and why.

    BTW DD, have you tried any of the carb blocker supplements that are available now?

    My wife uses them, but I have stayed true to the lower carb diet.

    I do cheat about once a weak though...today Schlotskys and Ice Cream....

    Tomorrow.....no carbs.
