No more than 3 years with team options after that, ranging from 8-10 million a year per season.

I am for 6-8, if i were to give him a contract for 8-10 i would put a team option right after the second year too.

That's not a bad idea, but i'd be willing to do 3 years with a team option for year 4 if that is what it takes to get it done. Just no player options in there anywhere.

He deserves a raise, but he's not worth $10M+. If he shot better maybe.

start with mle (whatever that number is this year), 3 years.

or do a s&t if need be, in which case it can go higher.

I think 8-9 should do it... but I also think it doesn't even matter. IMO this team will never be in position to be a player in free agency as we will never be under the cap. For us to be under the cap we would have to abandon nearly everything and rebuild around Brooks/Yao. So really the only problem paying Artest is hurting his trade value.

Morey has already made it clear that teams are hurting financially and we are looking to capitalize now. There should be no 2010 FA aspirations.

    His playoff performance not withstanding,

my biggest wonder is if his play will be hamstrung by "historic profiling". Seriously, was he affected by it in the second round?

If he was, then it has to be a factor whether we keep him or not or how much we pay him.

    Not a nickel less than Battier's $6.9m for 2009-2010.

3 years @ $8.5. I think that's about what he has right now anyway, and the 3 years is to entice him a little bit.

With this economy though, I wouldn't be surprised if Morey can get him for cheaper.
