I’ll reserve judgment until we see what the Rockets do after the trade. Also, the Rockets already have plenty of young players that need significant playing time (Smith, Sengun, Green, Thompson, Whitmore and Eason along with another young player if they keep the third pick tomorrow night). They should be focused on getting a star-caliber player.
Not quite yet. We actually have more picks now. A KD trade would be terrible but there are still many scenarios where this ends well.
I think we come out with more assets out of this. The quality they will end up being is yet to be determined though.
I think the 2025 pick is the only good one though. Nets wont trade Bridges if they dont have their picks they will wait till next year or the year after.
Of course, not. It has to be someone that matches up with the Rockets’ timeline. The only way they should consider trading for someone like Durant is if it came very cheaply, and they retained a lot of assets. Otherwise, you are looking at Donovan Mitchell (depending on if he extends in Cleveland this offseason), and Trae Young or second-tier stars like Karl Anthony Towns, Lauri Markkanen, Brandon Ingram or Dejounte Murray.
Stone is a terrific GM. He saved the franchise with this move, but unfortunately, he saved the wrong franchise.
At the end of the day, nothing has been decided except trading a middling EAST team future for an aging WEST team future. You could argue that if no other deal happens a loaded WEST and weak EAST increases your lottery opportunity.
Need one of our guys to advance another step and become a star and need it soon to get clear hierarchy and direction for the team's final build out, so one way to try and induce that is to burn your ships as a way to point out to the team that we believe in you and are going to battle with you and you only. Proven talent seems pretty expensive lately & takes a lot of assets, so increasing our treasure chest is not a terrible idea either. So yeah, in a way Tillman & front-office are being impatient. But it's not a stupid move at least.
Yeah owners are old rich guys, this is generally not the most patient people in the world. Remember Les refusing to let Morey tank so Morey had to keep churning out .500 teams and tried to get Gasol+Nene that one offseason before Stern axed it? Owners are much more win now attitude than fans
I disagree, we have 7 guys 23 and under - we don't need draft picks for 2-5 more years, we need time to develop, and then pick....this was a classic kick the can down the road - and be ready with draft capital if a star breaks loose. Great job Stone. DD
