    At the Drive-In

I just have to post this as my first post. In honor of one of the greatest bands of all time.:D

This is from an older Guitar World but I like the article anyway.

Since their 1994 formation in El Paso, Texas, At the Drive-In have played some 200 shows a year, entrancing packed houses with their swaggering powerhouse music and inticately interwoven guitar lines. Spreading the gospel of melodic hardcore requires a sound that cariies, and ATDI bring their message of empowerment and respect with a lot of noise.

But as guitarist Jim Ward explains, he and fellow ax-wielder Omar Rodriguez employ a rather atypical rythm/lead formula.

"I like to keep my tone down, and keep it fat underneath. Sometimes we both do that, so that we can make the sound super thick. There really aren't any solos--we just trade off, back and forth, and f*** with the dynamics." The result is a unique twin-guitar assault that redefines the sound of D.C. bands like Fugazi and Jawbox for a new generation.

At the Drive-In's latest album, Relationship of Command (Virgin), features a Trojan horse on the cover, an apt image to adorn their own tool subversion. Produced by ubiquitous Ross Robinson, Relationship of Command is poised to bring ATDI's post-hardcore to masses, with integrity intact.

That mission, in fact, has already started. After ATDI toured with Rage Against the Machine last year, some curious new converts started turning up to see them play at small clubs. Ward couldn't believe how thrilled and suprised the new fans were at the band's accessability.

"A couple of kids have come up and been like, 'We've never met a band before,' " he recounts in wonder. Rodriguez nods his head. "They never knew anything like underground shows existed. They've only known MTV and coliseums. With us, it's just, 'There's the stage, there's the band.' They're getting turned on to a whole new world."

I don't really follow them but I must admit they had a pretty good set on Conan.
