i had AT&T (cingular actually) a couple years back and i didn't like the service/reception at all. sometimes i couldn't get a signal in my freaking room. i moved to t-mobile and have had no problems since. people seem to think verizon is the best now but i've never had it.
Verizon generally has the best/most reliable service nationwide. Cingular's service used to be regarded #2, but for some reason I'm seeing it ranked lower nowadays. I've even seen Alltel ranked in the top 3 ahead of Cingular in some surveys. It's bizarre because I've always thought that Cingular and Verizon have had the broadest networks. I have TMobile and the reception is nowhere near as good as Cingular's was - especially if you leave major freeways. Heck, I barely get any reception in the building I work in, but when I step outside of the building, I get 4-5 bars. They must use some serious shielding or something in that building. BTW, I think you can see what your coverage will be like using TMobile on their site. I know people who use them can enter their address and they'll tell you what your signal strength may be around there. It was surprisingly accurate when I looked my home address up (I have weak-to-average coverage where I live, but again with AT&T/Cingular my coverage was great here). The phone you use may also matter.
At&t blows donkey d!ck. I had it and i dropped every other call. Plus it wouldn't get single on the 610 west meeting 59. Those exits from bellaire all the way to meyerland plaza had no freakin signal. I broke my contract 2 months in with that crap and signed with verizon. I have no complaints except that they were charging me 15 bucks a month for vcast which i never used.
I sometimes don't get a signal in my building. I'm usually in a basement, so yeah, I never get a signal. In this temporary break area that they set up, I don't get a signal. When fine hot b****es call me, they always say Kam, you never pick up your phone damnit. It's not like you work. I have cingular/att. When I get to the first level of the building, I get 500 bars, so it's not too bad. I blame it more on having tons of cement around me.
um...I have cingular and I don't have any problems like these people are describing...I have coverage basically no matter where I go or what I do. hell I was in washington dc for a video game tournament last year and I was 3 floors into the basement of a hotel and I still was able to make/receive calls. the only problem I have with cingular is them being ridiculously expensive -- but it is what it is.
Verizon is the best. The only thing i hate is that they cripple your phone. Don't expect to try to get a free ringtone or to send ANYTHING through bluetooth
Verizon sucks ... when we ran out of gas in the middle of nowhere (aka Ozona, Tx) Verizon would not work but my brothers AT&T/Cinguliar phone had no problems.
verizon rules!!! cause they write off my paychecks to be honest, I have tmobile and haven't had any problems in the past 7 years and the only reason why I'm keeping them is because the majority of the people I know are on tmobile and that's free calls since I'm on a family plan I do also own a pda device, (BALLIN!!!) Samsung i730, with Verizon and works flawlessly, THE EVDO network works with a quickness and haven't had issues with voice calls.
Doesn't Alltel use Verizon's network? I've had Verizon for 5 years now, and it's been rock solid for me in Manhattan and Austin. So far, reception in Houston has been very good, too.
They use any CDMA network while roaming. Verizon used to be the preferred carrier, but now Sprint is preferred, followed by Big Red. For consumer use, Alltel is hands down the best carrier. No annoying renew of contracts when you call in to change plans, great prices, no crippled phones and if you're savy enough, you can choose what network you prefer. Their phone selection sucks though.
I have to agree. I'm always curious about the other factors involved, because Cingular (despite sucky pricing) has always been rock solid in terms of coverage for me.
ive had verizon/tmobile/att(cingular) in that order verizon is the best reception wise..and tmobile the worst for me.. the reason i changed services from verizon because at the time their phones were really really crappy...i guess now their phones are ok.
