With as poorly as the Astros have been playing so far this season, it's nice to know that the supposed class of the NL sucks right about now!!! Who else hates the Cards as much as me?? My three least fave franchises in all of sports... the Cowboys, the Jazz and the Cards! Every year we hear about how great the Cards will be...and every year they come up short. Seriously, how many times over the last 5 years have you heard the Cards not only are the best team in the NL Central, but likely the best team in the NL?? How old and tired is that??? This team consistently underperforms based on its appearance on paper. And I love it...because I HATE THE CARDINALS!!! go 'stros!
Unfortunately, they have a reason to suck. They have 5 starting pitchers on the DL, and used something like their 11th or 12th starter this weekend. They had no spots on their 40-man roster and had to go grab someone from the Italian Olympic team or something like that. We need to make a move soon, because they are likely to improve once (if?) those guys get healthy.
Major -- that's kinda my point...their pitching staff is so susceptible to injury, it's funny. Every year they're touted as God's greatest gift to the NL..and every year they end up with injury problems that affect their rotation.
Plus, Tony LaRussa is not exactly known as a pitchers best friend. He has a bad reputation of abusing the arms of his pitchers, and I think it is starting to catch up to him. Meanwhile, I'd like to hear haven's thoughts on this subject. Haven, how do you feel about managers that overpitch their starters?
