Asus Laptops, any good?

Asus laptops are pretty good. I've had one and two of my friends have also had them. We've also had Dells and HPs and the ones with the least amount of work needed or done on them is Asus brands.

I will be in the market for a new laptop soon but I was thinking about getting a netbook. Pros, cons?

 

I'm perfectly happy with my Asus W7F running Ubuntu 9.04 (Running XP was fine too).

 

Asus makes the best motherboards. The main component that fails in laptops is the mb. My little brother purchased a Asus laptop 5 years ago and took it with him in Iraq and it's still running perfect with no problems.

 

Make sure you go to Best Buy or Frys and get the feel of the netbook yourself. They're ultra portable which is great but make sure you really like the keyboard size and track pad as they could be unbearable in the long run. Other than that, netbooks are really convenient for a anyone that wants the basic necessities like word processing and web surfing, and if you're a student like myself that tends to carry your laptop everywhere.

Overall, I heard Asus makes pretty good netbooks. I was about to get one but I'm thinking about waiting out for the EEE PC 1008HA. It looks a lot sleeker and it's almost like a mini MacBook Air that'll be half the price!

 

I got one for 1,100 about 14 months ago. Haven't had any problems.

One of the guys at work has two of them and he says they work really well.

 

i just bought the asus eeepc 1000he for someone.
great battery life, great screen, great keyboard, although it will require some getting used to if youve been using the normal notebook keypads.

might get a 2nd one for myself.

 

An ASUS notebook is the equivalent of a Lexus: stylish with many features for a great price and superb build quality. However, not common here in the US though they are very popular back in India/Middle East/Asia.

 

Asus has been making laptops for as long as any of the main manufacturers. Many of the specialty brand laptops were rebranded Asus, but then I guess the company decided to promote under its own name. They have gotten loads more flashier in the last two years. I have an s96j from 2007 and its like a laptop Mr. Rogers looking at the recent models.

Theyve always represented superb build quality and value, and were still competitive in hardware specs for gamers. Sadly theyve always had a reputation for poor battery life. I dont know about now, but an asus laptop cracking 3.5 hours used to be unheard of.

 

Battery life is a big issue for all Netbooks. Supposedly things will improve a lot in a few months. That's why I haven't bought one yet.
