I just heard Jose Lima was traded to Detroit today. I don't know the details but they have a huge park in Detroit so hopefully Lima can get it together there. Also they're calling up Tim Redding to pitch tomorrow against the Reds I think. ------------------ The death penalty SUCKS.
it was lima for dave mlicki ------------------ How Sweet It Is! How Sweet It Is! Gene Peterson on the rockets winning the 1995 championship over the Orlando Magic
It's about damn time I can't believe someone would want Lima's contract. Adios Jose! ------------------

Are the Astros allowed to make trades with teams other than the Detroit Tigers? ------------------ This post contains no smilies, you must judge my seriousness on your own...

I just heard this over the news here in Austin. I'm glad to hear that the Astros traded Jose Lima to Detroit. If I recall, that park up there is a pitcher's park, so who knows...he might do a little better. How good is Dave Mlicki...anyone know? ------------------
No one has mentioned the most important part of Timing's post. They called up Tim Redding. We finally get to see how good this guy can be. If these young rookies get all of their first year jitters out of the way, we might could really make some noise next season. ------------------ Feeling claustrophobic, like the walls are closing in. He sucks. This deal was all about unloading Lima's contract and I am ecstatic. Hopefully Drayton will rent-a-player now that that $7million is off the books. Yea right. I'm happy Hunsicker decided to go with Redding tommorrow. This team has to take some risks.
From Stats Inc. by way of espn.com: Mlicki's best pitch is a 90-MPH fastball. His heater has some tailing action to it, and he can sink the ball effectively when necessary. He has a serviceable curveball and a good changeup, both of which he can throw for strikes. He doesn't strike out a lot of hitters, however. When Mlicki gets hurt, it's usually because his pitches are up he doesn't have enough velocity to pitch high in the zone. A below-average fielder in the past, Mlicki was better in that area last season. He uses the slide-step and holds runners well. He seems to have had a pretty good year in 96 comming out of the bullpen for the Mets. I also like the fact that for the most part his numbers across his career are fairly consistent. It will be intresting to see if he is a bullpen guy or a starter. ------------------
Mlicki is as bad as Lima (worse, actually, given that he pitches in a pitcher's park), and costs nearly as much ($5m). I think the theory is that maybe the change of scenery will help. Plus, the Astros don't have to be as "nice" to Mlicki given that he doesn't have a history with the organization. ------------------ http://www.swirve.com ... more fun than a barrel full of monkeys and midgets.

He's also in the second year of a 3 year contract, like Lima. Unfortunately, I don't know how great this trade will be, other than the fact that we drop some salary. I hope Jose can get things turned around in Detroit. I'd love to see him become one of the league's best pitchers again. ------------------ CC.net's most courteous driver Oh yeah, and I'm looking for a job right now, so hire me please

They both are signed til 2002. With Mlicki making a little less. Although it appears the difference in salary was made up with cash by the astros. So basically now we are in the same situation. Except Lima can't get any worse.. but Mlicki can get much worse since he is now going to play at enron. Seems like we only trade with detroit. i guess because Tal Smith's son is in the detroit front office the GM i think ------------------ Shane "Save Our Rockets" "Life without basketball in Houston........without an arena that is what it will be"
During the Braves Mets game today, the Fox Broadcasters were talking about Braves pitcher Orlando Cabrera who was released by the Astros. Cabrera is telling everyone who will listen that he wants to "make Gerry Hunsicker look like a fool." Well, Gerry made himself look like a fool if he traded Lima for Lima (Mlicki plus cash). I was about to call this trade pointless, but then I realized Tim Redding is gonna be on the mound tomorrow ------------------
