So, how badly do we need another bat? http://houston.astros.mlb.com/NASAp...t_id=1145522&vkey=news_hou&fext=.jsp&c_id=hou Taveras makes the mistakes of youth, but he's a Rookie of the Year candidate and has done a fine job in the leadoff spot. Ensberg is an All-Star. Berkman is back, and even with Bagwell on the sidelines, the Houston offense leads the league in scoring in July with 131 runs. As good as we are playing, I would never have guessed that.
We've had great months from Berkman, Engsberg and Ausmus. Lance hitting well means so much to our offense. And Ausmus hitting .320 with a really high OBP didn't hurt either. We still really need another bat, because I don't believe Brad's going to keep batting .320 the rest of the year. Also, the month before Boston(AL) and St. Louis(NL) were the leaders.
The Pittsburgh announcers must have been lying. They said it on the air too during our seires. Most HR and runs. I was biotched.
i wonder where we rank now for the season. i know the Nats are last in MLB (or were last time I looked)...but I wonder where the Astros rank now in runs scored. i googled it, but couldn't find it.
During that Pittsburgh series I heard Milo say that they went up from 16th to 14th in several categories.
We're now tied for tenth in the NL with San Fransisco in runs scored at 436. MLB.Com Team Stats Team LEAGUE G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI TB BB SO SB CS OBP SLG AVG 1. Wow, let's do compare this team to the Cardiac Astros of '86. Pitchers Scott, Ryan, Knepper, Deshaies Oswalt, Clemens, Pettitte, Backe Let's see: young(er) phenom just entering his prime, old hall of famer K machine with great power, crafy lefty (advantage Pettitte), and a young guy with promise. Wow. 1B Davis Berkman (wish it were Bagwell ) Young power at first. Berkman is a much better hitter, though. 2B Doran Biggio They're both hardnosed and solid defensively and offensively, but Doran was young and Biggio is a hall of famer near the end of his career. SS Reynolds/Thon (a little) Everett Light-hitting, solid defense. Everett is younger, though. 3B Wallygarner Ensberg Advantage Ensberg. [c]C[/b] Ashby Ausmus Light-hitting and stellar defense, loved by pitchers. OF Cheo, Hatcher, Bass Burke, Taveras, Lane Advantage Cardiastros. I see some similarities. Thoughts?
i'd like to have the 86 OF back. i'll keep the rest the way it is. keep in mind that 86 team is probably my favorite team of all time...they HOOKED me on Astros baseball. i was so hooked after that, and that's why you see the homer that i am today posting here before you. but our rotation is better now...i think it's THE BEST rotation we've ever had, through the top 3. i'd put lidge over dave smith.
WOW! I would have never guessed that! This month has been a great one for the stros. I picked a great time of this season to head to houston and attend home games! :
