I suppose Bill Hall will be serving as a utility guy off the bench, as he's played everywhere except catcher and 1B. Which is probably the appropriate role for him at this point in his career. He's got some pop, but his K:BB numbers throughout his career have been borderline putrid. His stolen base numbers suggest that he does have a little speed, and can get the SB when needed. $3.25 million for 1 year? Yes, he is a .250 hacker (hitter may be a bit of a stretch) with poor on-base skills, but if he puts up numbers at or near what he produced in Boston last year, it'll turn out to be a decent move.
Both Hall and Barnes are dead pull hits who will be swinging for the Crawford Boxes each at bat. Wade wanted more punch from the 2nd and SS, to compensate from the lack of punch from Wallace and Castro.
I've warmed up to the idea of having Hall as my everyday 2nd baseman but those strikeouts and crappy OBP scare me a bit. For the cost, its a good deal, though.
