I am looking for some help.

I am working on a baseball card project.

I have a binder and I want 1 random Astros baseball card of every player who has appeared in a game for the Astros. In order w/ debut date listed.

FYI there are 1001 of them now.

I'm sure it's going to take a while. Many players didn't ever have cards issued, or if they did they were local limited items. Minor league cards work too and is a way to get many who never had major league Astro cards issued.

I'm just starting but from my collection I already have about 1/3 of them.

With me on the other side of the country I don't have access to Houston area collectors and shops that may specialize in these.

I'm specifically interested in basic cheap cards as this is going to he an expensive project in time and money.

If any of you have a source or advice, that communication is most welcome.

    Thank you.

P.S. Bruce Von Hoff was 100th player in Astros/ Colt 45s history.

    Thank you for your time.

This would be my long term investing tiers. Occum's Razors. These are obvious, but that's my point.

    Tier one:
Brady - All he has to do is hold off Mahomes. He will. Value rise should be steady
LeBron - No Real downside. He's a legend. They will rise.
Ohtani - This is the closest thing to a lock I've seen. Huge hype, following, and generational talent

    Tier Two:
McDavid - on the path to goat status
Jerry Rice - Still very affordable. He's one of a kind, but not highly sought after.

    Tier three:
Skenes - Generational Talent, But plays in Pittsburgh. cooling slightly with collectors. High Risk for High reward. But Generational.
Doncic - He hit a collecting llul, chance to buy in, and he's really killin it.
Serena - She's still flying way under the Radar. Buy now.
Tiger - He's cooled off, so still reasonably affordable, and likely set a standard that will never be matched again. He will catch another collecting wind in about 15 years.

There are no Astros, Texans or Rockets worth investing...unfortunately. Although Yao might be a really strong long term buy because he is like OG in China and that will never change. Nolan will rise, but he signs a lot of stuff.

    Where are you located?
I have a bunch from 2010 to present. I'm sure you might already have most of those.
But I have a ton of dupes.

    Thanks.

    I'm in Spokane Washington.

I stopped collecting from 2004 (after my youngest was born) until 2019.

I also slowed way down in 1997 (when my next to youngest was born)

Theme here is "kids are expensive"

I am in need of most from 2004-2018, and several of the "cup of coffee" guys from 2019 forward.

I have all but the obscure short term ones from 1980 - 1997.

I need quite a few from the 70s and almost all from the 60s.

I am not looking for expensive collectibles, just common cards. I am willing and happy to pay, but not rich by any means.

Thank you (everyone) for any help you can offer.

@IdStrosfan If you happen to have a list of cards you don’t have, that would be a good start. Sounds like you have the number of players, so I assume you have the names as well. I have quite a few with duplicates. I also know several around with huge boxes full of wax in tubs.

    Pretty cool project btw!

Bruh.. Skenes is a TJ surgery away from everyone losing their mortgage on cards. Also, don’t invest in pitchers. They don’t hold value long term and there will never be another Nolan Ryan.

To each their own though, and the rest of your list is pretty nice. Lebron, Brady, etc are a couple house payments to buy though.. The avg investing collector should go with flagship RC’s and vintage in my opinion.

    So far:
2023: Bannon, Dubin, France, Gage, Julks, Kuhnel, Madris, Salazar, Sousa.

2022: Goodrum, Mancini, Mushinski, Neris, Joe Perez, Will Smith.

2021: Baez, Emanuel, Robel Garcia, Yimi Garcia, Garza, Graveman, Hartman, Ivey, Maton, Pruitt, Jacob Wilson.

2020: Bailey, Castellanos, De Jong, Taylor Jones, Raley, Sanabria.

Some of these should be available pretty easily. I just haven't gone to my local card shop and looked.

But the ones who were only here part of a season and don't have major releases will be a challenge.

    Thank you again.

Do you desire Don Russ cards at all or just Topps and Bowman?

I am not picky and actually would like as many different types of cards per page as possible.

    ( for esthetics )

    Thank you.

Look at Justin Verlander cards, or even Clayton Kershaw, pitchers are not good for investing. I have close to 100 F.Valdez Base Topps RCs, those are not worth the shipping cost, but I bought the bulk Valdez for $1 when he was who, who?!!?!?!! Remember sell high, you can always buy it back. I made pretty good amount recently with Dalton Knecht before his 1st Lakers regular season game. And sold most of my Caitlin Clark before the playoffs especially his jersey numbered cards. Finding gems is the most fun in collecting/investing/flipping.

I'm glad I sold Vladdy Daddy early on.
I have a bunch of Jasson Dominguez at present but I'm getting ready to sell him off if he can't stay healthy.
I suspect I will never make anything on my Pedro Leon Cards.
My prizes right now are my auto numbered Bowmans first Bobby Witt Jr's
