According to 790 this afternoon, it's a big rumor that the 'Stros are one of the front running teams for Bonds' services. Other team mentioned was the Padres.

Could be nothing, but they were making a big deal out of it.

I'm listening right now. I thought they were saying the Astros would never be interested in Bonds...but they should be.

If they sign Bonds, I won't watch another game. He's a disgrace to the game and has no business in an Astros uniform.

shyat.. I bet he would crank a few over the crawford boxes.. esp if he is about to bust the record.. then milo would have called Aarons 715 and Bonds record homeruns... I don't care who he is as long as the Astros win and he isn't a cancer. Make it happen.

Pretty much calling 100% B.S. on this one.

If you think for a second the Astros take part in that clubhouse cancer's sideshow, you haven't paid any attention to the Astros organizational philosophy.

Yeah...We can tell you are a true Astros fan.
If he's in shape and isn't demanding a lot of money then he could make a good bat coming off the bench. :D

I would be unbelievably shocked. While he is a great bat, I'm not sure how I feel about it. I'm not a Barry Bonds fan but how do you say no to him?

I've been an Astros fans my whole life. Barry Bonds is a crappy teammate and human being. He's a cheater who doesn't deserve to pass Hank Aaron.

Please, please, please do not sign Barry Bonds. I will not go to a game where he's wearing an Astros uniform. I'm a little interested, so I will watch when he's about to break the record, but I hope to God that he doesn't do it in Houston. He's been a clubhouse cancer for years, it'd be like signing Terrell Owens.

No way. Bonds can't field the outfield anymore. He's going to DL in the American league.

I think Bonds might have the Dennis Rodman affect. Hate him on any other team, love him on yours. Bonds would be HUGE, imo.

Really? It would be like signing TO? With the numbers he's put up I'll take that. He hasn't been a cancer to the team either. Not yet anyways.

By pointing out that he's old, broken down, hated by his teammates, hated by the press, hated by fans, can destroy a very solid Astros clubhouse, is a massive distraction, and has a federal investigation hanging over his head.

"Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how did you enjoy the play?"

i can think of another reason he doesn't fit the astros philosophy.

edit: actually just as ridiculous as it is to say the astros don't sign black players, its equally ridiculous to say they don't sign potential cancers, see another former Giant, Kent, and before that Carl Everett and I'm sure there are other examples. Bonds hasn't proven himself to be enough of a cancer to hold back a team.

it was a joke. but I edited my first post in response your implication that the astros don't sign potential cancers because they have.

I think Bonds would fit in fine with the Astros players. They were able to get along with Kent and Carl Everett, and I've even seen Berkman and Bonds joking around with each other at a home run derby before. I just don't want the astros to spend money on a player who can't field anymore.
