Because I have not seen this advertised anywhere, I just thought I would pass this info onto those that may not know this. ALL Astros home games for the rest of season are broadcast in High Definition on Houston Time Warner Cable channel 299 (INHD2). I think it may be ALL games on FOXSW....because away games on Channel #51 probably get the exclusive rights to those games. Also Saturday games on FOX (Which are already in HD) will not be on #299. I'm loving it on my 50" DLP HDTV...baseball is soooo much better. Just spreading the word.....
According to this article (scroll to bottom), its only certain selected home games for the rest of the year (11 of them)... not all of them on Foxssw. Did it say it would be all of them somewhere? (if so, that would be sweet).
Wow I guess I was wrong. I just noticed the games last week on 299. Then (I thought) I heard something saying the rest of the FOXSW games would be on 299. I guess I was wrong...whatta bummer. Sorry for the misinfo guys!!!!
Any sport in hi-def kicks butt! I'll even freakin' watch NASCAR in hi-def, just cause the freakin' picture is so nice!! Astros games in hi-def are just so sweet!
It's funny...I find myself watching almost anything in HD. Once night I watched Korean Sumo-Wrestling in HD...it was cool. Also UFC is awesome in HD and all the "chicks in bikini" shows.
You can see which games it will be by going to the Astros site and clicking on teh schedule. the Hi-Def games are listed as being on FS-HD.
I am not rich enough to afford all this fun sounding gadgets and all. I will get there soon but I have been curious about this for a while....what exactly is so different when watching Astros or Texans game on "regular" definition TV in comparism to HDTV? Am I going to see things that invisible in my regular TV? Is the strike zone bigger (well I am sure not)? PLease I will appreciate details so that I can have something to salivate on before I become rich enough like the rest of y'all to afford the good life in electronics technology.
Visit a friend with HD and within seconds you will see the difference. I can't afford it either, but i sure will make a trip to a buddy's house to enjoy it.
First, it's very clear. Secondly, since it's wide screen, it can show much better angles. So you can see much more of the field. Maybe some others can explain it better than me, but it's really nice. HD isn't ridiculously expensive any more, it only costs me like $7 more per month on my cable bill. My tv was like $370 or something.
A way to look at it is by comparing it to your dvd video quality. HD is approx. 10X more clearer then DVD quality [the details have to do with the number of lines of picture there are...HD has 10x more lines then DVD]. After about you get 2-5X more clearer than DVD however it is very hard to tell if the quality is getting better. Hope that helps.
Yeah off the bat you get a higher resolution. More scanlines...1080 to be exact I believe compaired to 525 scanlines on a standard TV. Then if the show or sporting event is shot and broadcast in widescreen, you just get more of the field. In Football it's awesome because you can see the entire backfield and a lot of the defense backfield before a snap. You don't have the wait to see the runningbacks. In Basketball you can almost see an entire halfcourt when the PG has the ball at the top of the key. You get more and it looks a helluva lot better. I got a TV for about $2100 (before warranty and tax) and it has been WAY worth it. I'm not rich at all...just happen to reward myself this year with a portion of my tax refund. Having kids is something worth it also. I work for the cable company so all of my cable is free and that helps out a lot also.
I will endeavor to catch a game on HDTV somewhere soon. Thanks for the brief explanations. Phi, that was funny.
