I heard Peter Gammons say that there is a possibility the Astros could be involved with a three-way trade with the Red Sox and Expos. It was on Espnews. Astros Get:Shea Hillenbrand Red Sox Get: Javier Vasquez/ Bartolo Colon Expos get: Ward someone from the Astros, and maybe a young prospect from the Sox.
It was also in Gammons most recent column on ESPN.com, however, he said Montreal could not afford to take on Ward's contract. Ward doesn't make much, yet, so I don't know what he meant by that.
That can't possibly be true. The Expos can't be that brain-dead. And let me take the time to *shudder* at Shea Hillenbrand. But then again, it is Gammons, so I'm just waiting for Ryan Klesko to be included somehow.
No, no, no and NEVER. Mediocre, and overrated Shea can stay in Boston. Gerry, you either get Vasquez out of this or tell Boston to find another idiotic team to overrate Strikeout Shea. Let me reiterate, I want no part of the Redsox's overrated crap. Which describes Strikeout Shea.
I definitely agree, if the Astros don't get a pitcher out of this deal, then its a bad trade. Shea is a decent thirdbaseman, but I don't think he'd fare well in the NL. The Astros need more quality pitching, I think Time Purpura said it best in his interview with Rob Neyer that you can NEVER have enough good pitching. Vasquez would immediately add that.
Shea is nowhere near decent Jared, he walked 19 times in 634 at bats last year, and has average power. We should offer Redding or Kirk, Ward or Lane, Ensberg or Rosario for Javier. That makes sense for both teams.
If there is any truth at all to this rumor, I seriously don't understand why the Stros don't just trade straight up Ward and a couple of pitching prospects for Vasquez and Colon?? That would put us as preseason NL Champs or close to, no doubt. Heck, I'd even throw in Billy Wagner if necessary to facilitate three team deal (moving Dotel to closer and one of the young guys, ala Redding, to bullpen permanently). I know nothing about MLB trade rules/restrictions??
What are you guys talking about? Hillenbrand is a really good player. He's only had two years of experience, so he is still growing. If we can give up Ward to get this guy, then you do that deal.
There are spmething like 3,413 free agents still out there waiting for any kind of offer. Cherry pickin' time? Redding will be good. Here or somewhere. Ward? Send him to the AL and get something. Shea? Or to Shea. I don't care. Touchee.
Apparently, the Red Sox just signed 3B Bill Mueller...so Hillenbrand could in fact be headed elsewhere.
it is the Red Sox....then again, I seem to be having this conversation with myself so I wont apologize to me again
Bobrek, it isn't about strikeouts only, it's about on base ability. Shea Hillenbrand has walked 38 times in two full big league seasons, Blum eclipsed that number last year by himself. The reason Shea looks so good this year, is his early season tear allowed him to rack up more hits than he should've got, and with those hits, his OBP is a whopping .330. If you want to use the power argument that won't work either, as Blum hit 10 homers, and Shea only 18. Not a big enough number for me to consider dealing for "Swinging" Shea, if you think Strikeout isn't appropriate
