I can't seem to find the games for the last couple days. Last year it was on Time Warner 23 i think? Anyone know what's up?
Found This: The Austin CW Houston Astros Tues, May 22 - at San Francisco, 9:15p Sat, June 16 - Seattle, 6:05p Tues, June 19 - at LA Angels, 9:05p Tues, Aug 14 - at LA Dodgers, 9:10p Sat, Sept 1 - at Chicago, 12:05p Sun, Sept 9 - at NY Mets, 12:10p Sat, Sept 15 - Pittsburgh, 6:05p Sat, Sept 22 - at St. Louis, 6:15p Sat, Sept 29 - Atlanta, 6:05p
In past seasons the games have occasionally been on Time Warner Channel 77 in Austin, but so far this season I've seen 2 Rangers games airing on that channel and no Astros games so far. When I go to Channel 23, there's a message saying Ch 23 no longer exists and that channel 12 will carry WB programming.
Austin is screwed. We no longer have Channel 77 to save us, and mlb.tv blacks out all the games. Personally, I have resorted to using Afreeca to watch all the games. So far I have caught every game on there. If you want to try it out, go to myp2p.eu. Afreeca is harder to get going than sopcast or pplive, because you have to use a Korean proxy. The walkthrough and forum on the myp2p site is very thorough, though.
Austinites will get all the games (130ish, iirc) on FoxSW or a mirror channel, these 9 games of the 25ish KNWS games on the CW, and any games on Fox/ESPN. You're sol on about 20 games or so.
Thanks for the info, this is helpful. Was wondering why they weren't showing them locally this year and hoping they weren't just on some channel I couldn't find.
Not fully true - tonight's game is on 77. But yeah, it's seems like a number of games early this season haven't been on. Always check the following: 54 - FSN 77 - I think takes some KNWS games 12 - same 21 - WGN (for vs. Cubs games) 65 - TBS (for vs. Braves games) I think ESPN games are blacked out locally, so I don't think that's an option. If it's not on the above, it's not on.
You just saved me from committing a homicide. I've been wondering why so many Astros games weren't getting televised this year on FSN so far. It seems like a much higher number than last year, and I just assumed they were dropping them because no one was going to tune in to watch Wandy or Sampson pitch. I didn't know where to look. Now my evenings have purpose again.
Aren't all 162 games broadcast in Houston? I know that last year, if there were games that were on FSN/KNWS in Houston but not Austin for whatever reason, ESPN here was still blocked out because we're in the Astros terroritorial rights. Dumb, but true. Same reason MLB Extra Innings is blocked out for all Astros games, even if they are on here.
All of this is pretty freaking ridiculous, really. I mean, listening to you guys discuss this, catching a damn MLB game for someone who is PAYING for sports packages on cable or satellite television should not be more difficult than understanding the damn NFL salary cap.
Didn't know that was the case in Austin too. There's been some scuttlebutt about altering the "home territory" rules, not letting teams claim huge geographic areas & such, probably wouldn't help Austin though.
Yup. I just look each day if I'm home to see if the game is on. It's all random chance. This last week has been especially terrible with several games not televised. I would say in the end, normally about 130 games are televised in Austin. It's even more fun in that FSN here gets both Astros & Rangers games. Normally, if both teams are playing at the same time on FSN, they'll pick the Astros. But occasionally, they'll just pick the Rangers for fun.
