OK, during the Astros game tonight, there was a trivia question:

What is the maximum number of pitches a batter can see in a single at-bat without hitting a foul ball?

Our answer was 6, which is incorrect. Unfortunately, we had no sound on the game so we didn't hear the explanation of the correct answer and cannot figure out how the hell they came up with it.

Anyone want to guess the answer? Or if you saw the game and know, what the hell was the rationale?

The answer they gave was 11. The explained rationale was that a batter can go to a full count with 2 outs in an inning, and a runner on can get picked off. Therefore, said batter comes back up to start the next inning with a fresh count. And, I assume, or it was assumed, that it would be considered part of the same at bat.

    Hope that helps.

Interesting!! Thank you - we had no idea where the other 5 pitches were coming from.
