I'm just wondering how many of you guys travel to away games & what are some of the worst experiences?

I am thinking about going to LA with a friend for the Astros-Dodgers games in June.

    Any tips?

I have been a fan for 45 years.

Unfortunately I am not well off financially, and live far away from any MLB teams and stadiums.

Last year I finally got to see my first ever regular season game - my wife and I went to Seattle to see a Saturday afternoon game vs Mariners.

JV pitched a gem and the Astros won. The game was fun and thrilling.

Unfortunately my wife wore a navy Astros t-shirt and I wore an orange Tucker jersey and my 2017 WS champions hat.

We were verbally harassed the entire game and the lady behind wy wife kept screaming "Winker marry me" while kicking my wife in the back of the head 4 times.

Each time she apoligized and my wife went back to the game. I offered to switch seats multiple times but my wife wouldn't.

Anyway. We were miserable and probably won't go to another road game in Seattle.

Went to the very first Astros game in Fenway back in 2003. Other than Sox fans with ridiculous accents screaming at me that the Astros suck, it was fine. Fun experience and ballpark

Dodgers fans will be ruthless toward you because of course you were the one banging a trashcan. When the Astros went to Dodger Stadium in 2021 there was a story that police had to protect the few Astros fans that were in attendance and safely escorted a few out of the stadium after the game.

Dodger Stadium is great, Dodger Fans are scum. I'd never go there and root for the Astros or Giants, Padres probably too.

Yankees fans were cool, but I think mostly because of my kids. Braves fans have been awful the last several years.

Catch a few games every year when they come to the Bay Area. Fans at SF and Oakland (back when they had fans show up) have always been polite. And my wife and I are always decked out in Astros gear. Respectful generates respect. You'll still have to deal with your team getting booed, or the "cheater" chants when Altuve and Bregman come up to bat.

If you can swing it, try to get seats in the area behind the visiting team dugout. Tends to be the side that has the most fans of the road team.

I’ve been to a few Astros vs the Mariners games. The last game I went to was the J.P. France game earlier this season. For the most part the fans where I was sitting were fine, but i was sitting with school teacher’s families because my wife got us tickets through her school district. No one harassed me while I was wearing my Altuve jersey in the stands. When I was leaving the bathroom I did get told the Astros suck by some moron. I just ignored him.

I expected going to watch the Astros in Chicago against the White Sox would be really bad. I can be very loud and blunt to the players and people. To my surprise it wasn't that bad. I did have a few people when I had my back turned to them call me a monster. However, overall it wasn't bad - the crowd for the White Sox has changed a lot over the last couple decades.

I have gone to Wrigley Field, and the fans there were actually far worse. Security ended up getting involved and punches were thrown but I was not removed from the stadium, but they did move where I was seating.

If you are concerned about conflict, I wouldn't wear Astros gear in Dodgers Stadium..... I personally am not concerned about it, but I get some people are.

So not only are you an attorney and know people in both the Astro and Rocket org and happily share that information...you also whoop ass if necessary? You probably know the people that are making the Bear and are tied into the Chicago food scene too. You are definitely an old white guy right?

I am a white guy in my 40's - so I guess that makes me old.

No, not afraid of physical confrontations - but I am sure at some point I will slow down and pay the price.

As for the Chicago food scene, I know people really into that and know some from the Pappas family, but they are only tangentially into the Chicago food scene. FWIW I prefer food from Houston.

That was supposed to be obvious sarcasm. We all know you are old. Houston food is ridiculously underrated. Pappas were probably always better at business than food but being pretty good at both will make you wealthy. The best restaurant in Houston is March.

I catch an Astros game in Baltimore once a year with my son (both decked out in Astros jerseys and hats). Never had a single incident and park staff has been great, inviting us to join their fan club just to give us a ton of swag. Might change now that the Orioles are competitive lol.

Agree that seats behind the visitors dugout are the best. Always a contingent of loud Astro fans there.

We are going to Yankee Stadium this year for the first time, so I'm expecting a far different experience. We might go incognito just so we can have a full unbiased experience in the park.

Coors Field is pretty awesome, and with Denver being a football town and the Rockies being awful, you are guaranteed to have at least half the crowd be Astros fans. You might catch some heckling from a couple of hipsters, but I've never experienced anyone aggressive or rude.
