OK, I know the Stros FINALLY signed Grigsby but are they doing anything to sign all their other unsigned picks? Anyone have any idea on whether they are trying to sign Mitchell Talbot, Rory Shortell, Patrick Misch, Scott Robinson or any of the others?
I doubt we'll hear any news until a) the player signs, or b) the player goes back to school & the Stros lose his draft rights. Other than 1st round picks, negotiations really aren't publicised. What I don't know is which of the unsigned guys are Juniors. It looks like there's several unsigned guys who'll be DFE candidates we can sign before next year's draft. Here's the list: http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/draft/astros02.html
Mitchell Talbot and Scott Robinson (2nd and 7th round picks) were high school players. Not sure if Talbot has a scholarship anywhere or not. Robinson has a scholarship with SD State and head coach Tony Gwynn, the school that 3rd rounder Rory Shortell is from. Rory is a Junior this year I think, if the Stros don't sign him. Pat Misch, the 5th rounder, was a Junior last year at WMU. All of these guys could be lost if they start college next month. That would destroy this years draft (you can see the lack of pitching depth the Stros have at the short-season level. few high potential players.) I was just wondering if, with Grigsby signing, the Stros management has changed it's stance regarding signing players. A few weeks ago they put a halt on signing all drafted players. Wouldn't have hurt as bad LAST year when a lot of seniors were drafted early.
