According to a team spokesperson, Pence was taken to an emergency room for lacerations on his knee and hands and will be evaluated this morning by team medical director Dr. David Lintner. Pence is expected to be back at the Astros Spring Training complex later on Tuesday.
There's been worse injuries. By worse, I mean more stupid. John Smoltz ironing his shirt while wearing it. Sosa put on DL for straining his ribs while sneezing.
Gotcha. For some reason, I read it as him walking through it and maybe it closing on him or something like that.
when Jim Kelly was a kid he ran thru a sliding door and slit his throat open, almost died, his mom had to hold his throat to stop the bleeding, coulda been worse!
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/5551817.html Astros' Pence hurts hands, knees in accident By JOSE DE JESUS ORTIZ Copyright 2008 Houston Chronicle KISSIMMEE, Fla. – With cuts throughout his body, especially lacerations on both hands and knees, Hunter Pence limped into the Astros’ clubhouse Tuesday morning and received plenty of grief for injuring himself by falling through a sliding glass window Monday night. Pence and his teammates could laugh a bit after the Astros sophomore outfielder spent part of the night in a local emergency room here getting stitches for the lacerations he suffered in the accident at his apartment. On the first day of their first full-squad workout, the club learned Pence will be out of action for at least a week. “It’s pretty silly to have this kind of freak accident happen,” he said. “I didn’t really think I would go through a glass door. Normally it wouldn’t shatter. But somehow it shattered and I was in the middle of a bunch of broken glass. …I was actually very fortunate because none of the glass was stuck into my wounds.” Pence said he was preparing to go into hot tub with a friend outside his apartment when he decided to go to the bathroom first. At that point, he had left the door open. Before he headed back, though, he said his friend had shut it. And unfortunately for him, he didn't realize the sliding door was shut as he tried to hop on to a ledge. Immediately after the accident, Pence tried to go shower. “I tried to just go up to the bathroom to shower to get all the glass off me, but I was bleeding pretty bad,” he said. “I called my parents so they said to call 911.” He said firemen, emergency personnel and paramedics arrived at his apartment, cleaned him up and bandaged his wounds “so I wasn’t bleeding all over the place.” Then they sent him to the emergency room. It could have been worse, however. “For Hunter I hate to see something like this happen,” Astros owner Drayton McLane said. “It could have been much more serious. He could have cut a tendon or an artery. We are told he should be back within a week.” Pence, who is expected to start in right field and bat sixth behind All-Star Carlos Lee, said he suffered the injury Monday night when he hopped through a door that he thought was open. “There’s like a ledge to go from the outside to inside and I was kind of hopping to go get up the ledge,” Pence said after he was examined by team physician David Lintner. “And the glass door was shut, so I just didn’t see the door and just jumped through it.” Pence, 24, hit .322 with 17 home runs, 11 stolen bases, 57 runs and 69 RBIs over 108 games last year as a rookie, finishing third in the National League Rookie of the Year balloting. With 246 total bases last season, Pence had the most total bases by an Astros rookie since Hall of Famer Joe Morgan had 251 as a rookie in 1965. Pence arrived early to camp and began working out on Sunday, but now he must wait at least a week before returning to most baseball activities. Moreover, he is walking with a brace on his left knee to keep it stabilized. “I got small cuts everywhere, but just mainly my knee had stitches last night,” he said. “It’s really not that bad. It’s just the fact I can’t bend it. They need it to heal together. That’s the whole reason I have this huge brace so I don’t bend it. “They said about a week (before he can practice). Hopefully it can be sooner, so about a week I’ll probably be able to do something soon. But as of right now I can’t do very much.”
Obviously drunk. Has anyone seen this guy's myspace page? It is obvious he partys quite a bit. Hottubbing?
This is a good sign. Last year he did something really stupid and foolish in the offseason and ended up having a great year for us. Now that he has done something foolish again, we know he's going to have another great season. No sophomore slump for Hunter.
