Pretty good idea by the Astros business department. Concessions will still be on sale for the full price, and they'll sell a ton of the WC championship gear... and there won't even be a game going on.
I went to Rally Moday last year. It wasnt all that. the lines for concessions were not even worth it.

I guess I'm the only one that finds it sad to throw a huge party for coming in second... ...and what exactly does "Wild Card Champions" mean?
OK...If the Rockets finish second to the Spurs this season, remind me to buy you a beer at the "4th seed champions celebration party".
apples. oranges. baseball is a totally different animal. making the playoffs is a far bigger accomplishment in baseball than basketball. in the NBA, more teams make the playoffs than don't. it's a joke. in baseball, 8 teams out of 30 make it in.
Yeah, but only 8 teams get home court advantage in the first round of the playoffs...now THAT is something to be proud of.
no, you're not. ooh, we made it into the playoffs. although, the manner in which we got in deserves mentioning, it's hardly something worthy of a champange shower. also, WC Champion banners that adorn the stadium are totally lame. with that said, i like the "pep rally". it's cheap entertainment.
Wrong. It is an honor to make it to the playoffs in baseball, unlike all other professional sports. In the NBA and NHL, over 50% of the teams make the playoffs. The NFL is a little better at 37.5% of the teams make it. In MLB, only 26.6% of the teams make the playoffs. That's a big deal.
and it's why they play a freaking 162 game schedule. because the regular season is meant to be IT in baseball. even teams with rich tradition like the cardinals put up banners for regular season success.
I just got top secret photos of the Astros back-to-back wild card champion rings. They'll be presented to the players right before game 3 of the NLDS. Replicas will be available to fans sometime in the offseason...
Wild Card Champions as a title was created by the league, not the Astros... they get what the league gives them.
