The next series on the way to the World series lands Houston in STL. Talk about the games in this thread.

    Pitching Matchups:

    4-12 -- Jared Fernandez (0-0, 27.00) vs. Woody Williams (0-0, 6.00)
    4-13 -- Roger Clemens (1-0, 0.00) vs. Jeff Suppan (0-1, 13.50)
    4-14 -- Wade Miller (1-0, 3.00) vs. Cris Carpenter (1-0, 7.50)

I posted this in the Pettite thread (sorry for the repeat) but...

One thing to worry about tonights game: The Cardinals JUST FACED a knuckler on Saturday night... Steve Sparks... and rocked him pretty good. Sparks has had a long career, indicating he's had control of that pitch for awhile... and St. Louis still jumped all over him.

That's scary, when you consider that Jared neither has the experience, nor the track-record, of mastering this pitch in the big leagues.

Lets hope after 5 innings, we're still in the game... and I'll take my chances with a tiring Woody, and their patchwork bullpen.

Suppan on Tuesday vs. the Rocket... pffft!!! :D

Chris Carpenter vs. Miller on Wednesday.... double pfft!! :D :D

I'm going with the same. I don't think Jared Fernandez has a prayer out there today.

However, when you have Clemens and Miller in your #3 and #4 spot in the rotation you really don't have to worry about it.

    The Cards' pitching sucks.

    Let's kill the birds.

Does anyone know why we're not just skipping to Roger for this game? Because of the off day, Clemens does have his five days of rest. Why throw Fernandez out there?

Fernandez would have to pitch one way or the other. This way, the 40 year old Clemens gets more rest.

With Fernandez pitching, homerun derby will start a little early this year.

Tough series...hopefully Astros take 2/3 but i could easily see the cards taking 2/3 especially if they win game 1...

I'm going to go out on a limb and say LWW.

I think tonight's score may resemble a softball score more than a baseball score.

I mean seriously...is there nobody else who could start instead of Fernandez? This guy is going to get clobbered. I mean, even I could hit the meatballs he throws. I just hope the game is close. Who knows, he may surprise us.

As far as the other games, the stros should easily win both. Clemens will dominate as will Miller.

Well, at least pitching Clemens tonight means Fernandez will have one less start. It looks like Pettite will miss 2 starts, provided he can start right after coming off the DL.

The Cardinals must have the most unbalanced team in the majors. No other team can match their 4 best hitters in Pujols, Renteria, Edmonds, and Rolen. Yet they have mediocrity to crap everywhere else. What a horrible pitching staff.

How do you figure this??? If Clemens goes tonight, who goes tommorow?

Miller went last Friday, meaning he's only ready by Wednesday.

Thus, Fernandez would have to throw tommorow anyways... that's what was meant by saying, "He'd have to throw one way or another."

Its also not a given that he'll get a second start after tonight... seeing how he does tonight, the team might try another pitcher out when they play Milwaukee in Pettite's spot in the rotation.

Jim Edmonds and Reggie Sanders will dominate this series but I like the Astros to still win 2 out of 3.

ok. My best attempt at Cardinal humor.

Why isn't Rick Ankiel in prison? Three strikes, please.

Why did the St. Louis Cardinal cross the road? Because that's what chickens do all the time.

What type of poultry do the St. Louis Cardinal fans eat at Thanksgiving? Crow.

A sad little boy goes up to the Veternarian with his pet Cardinal and asks him if there's anything he can do. Veternanrian says what's the problem? Boys says. Look at him. He's old, tired, and, beat up., what kind of drugs do you give an old Cardinal like this one? Doc says, Andro. He's be better than new.

Why were the Cardinals so good after Mark McGwire came up to the big leagues? He gave them a shot in the arm.

What does Williams throw his slider into the dirt during the biggest games of the season? Woody, he just can't get it up.

Why is playing in St. Louis like having sex? You get inside busch and hit a lot of home runs.

What do call a game of Pepper with Rick Ankiel? Fetch.

What the difference between playing Texas hold'em in St. Louis and Texas Hold 'em anywhere else? No aces.

    ok. That's all I got.

Full of rimshots.... funny stuff (minus the Ankiel jokes, which has no relavance since he's not on the team... he's probably their Eddie Griffin... a guy penciled in to produce, and who's severely held back their growth.)

for some reason I'm more realistic in baseball than basketball

and this game is a "no way in hell unless we can match the 9 runs fernandez will give up by the 4th inning"

    Loss Win Win.

I just pray that williams is equally as bad lol, that's about all ya can do.

Your offense can't bail you out of all jams, especially down by 5+.

    Good luck Fernandez/Astros :)
