    Pittsburgh Papers have been speculating.

If you haven't noticed, the pirates have been dumping salary for middle of the line minor league prospects

IT'S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN, NOT FOR ENSBERG

Our pitching is just now hitting it's groove and I'd hate to take away one of our most consistent bats in the lineup.

This would be the dumbest trade in the history of man. I will not watch another Astros' game until the next one if this trade goes down.

This would make me laugh, cry, and scream at the same time. What a mistake that would be.

I will put money down that this trade never happens. Gerry Hunsicker is not a stupid man. He will not pull the trigger on a 28 year old pitcher who still is trying to live up to his potential for one of our best bats.

Look at all the trades Pittsburgh as made. Peter Gammons said last night "Brian Giles and Jason Kendall could be acquired by a team for middle of the road prospects"

now tell me, is Kris Benson worth more than Brian Giles or Jason Kendall. Hell no

No way Hunsicker ships one of his best hitters away for a scrub like Benson. If he does, he needs to be fired the day after he does it.

Maybe the Astros are getting Kendall/Gilles along with Benson?

If the Astros are indeed giving up Ensberg for Benson and a AAA pitcher this AAA pitcher better be one hell of a prospect.

We would not be giving cash. Ensberg makes less than Benson. If anything, they would be giving cash (like they did in addition to Lodton and Ramirez).

I seriously doubt Ensberg's going anywhere- Blum simply isn't that good, and we don't really even have any legit 3B prospects down on the farm.

It is very strange that the Pirates would give away a 25 year old run producer like Ramirez. The team has no power outside of Giles.

If I'm trading Ensberg to the Pirates I better be getting Benson and either Fogg or Kip Wells too. You just don't trade a young 3B for a pitcher who may be damaged goods and whose price is about to go up, especially after you see that team give away a CF and a 25 year old 3B to a division "rival".*

*-(I use "rival" loosely, because the Cubs, by nature, are losers.)

Come on guys have faith. When was the last time Hunsicker has made a bad trade that he wasn't forced to because of salary. Whatever the Astros do they should be getting the better end of the deal since Pittsburg is unloading players.

    Rob Dibble said it best

John (Houston) (TX): Hey rob, please answer, what do you see the astros doing before the deadline in terms of pitching? I would like to see them get Benson or Ponson. What do you think?

Rob Dibble: (4:55 PM ET ) John, I saved the best for last.... first of all, Benson is hurt right now and knowing what I know about him, I wouldn't want him on my team because he's not consistent enough, and I mean that in a mental sense. Ponson is the real-deal. And if I can't have Javier Vasquez then, Ponson is No. 2. Benson is not an option.

i trust his opinions over a Pittsburgh Writer who is desperate for a story. That guy is a jackass

Just something interesting to consider. Lets assume that that the Ensberg for Benson rumor does hold water. Perhaps, the Astros know something we don't about Ensberg. Maybe the year he is having is an abberation and the Astros know it and are striking while the iron is hot.
