Matt Cusick, a 2B at low A ball, is the minor leaguer. He was off to an insanely hot start of the season. Surprised we gave him up for a 35 year old reliever with an ERA over 5.
If they wanna add and stay competitive fine, just so long as you don't give up any valuable prospects. Hawkins did have a pretty good stint with the Cubs a few years back but hasn't done much of anything lately it seems. I guess it can't be any worse than some of the guys in the pen now.
We are kind of safe here since they don't have any valuable prospects to give up. The two guys they've given up for Wolf & Hawkins were among the better prospects that they have, but they just don't have anything worth anything to give up. I could list maybe 10 guys in the minors for the Astros that would be 'better' prospects than what they gave up.
it's absolutely pointless. pointless, awful trade. the fact that cusick has even a glimmer of potential makes this trade awful.
I don't understand what the Astros are doing at all. They need to get some young pitching instead they are going out and getting these retreads.
The worst part of these moves are that Wolf and Hawkins are only signed thru this year so we could be renting them to solidify our place in 4th. Wolf may net us draft picks in the offseason but I doubt Hawkins would.
This kid is only 22...hitting .280 with 9 dingers. As a 2nd baseman. WHY....what is the point. Even if you think this kid has only a 5 percent chance of being an effective major leaguer what does adding a 35 year old washed up middle reliever do to improve the Astros. Trading the future to put another bandaid on this below average team is bad enough. But Hawkins isn't even a good band aid
Ed Wade just got off the phone with Morey and told him, "to top that, now the Astros will be the talk of the town once again....." Could we have any more polar opposite GM's in the same town..........
Terrible...this isn't some 28 year old AAAA player, it's a 22 year old with some potential (rated 29th best prospect in 07).

i dont know what his contract status is but maybe they are playing the let them walk at the end of the season and get extra picks card
