Rejoice, the Astros have their flamethrower. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Being told <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Astros?src=hash">#Astros</a> deal 4closer Ken Giles from <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Phillies?src=hash">#Phillies</a> done pending successful completion of physicals. Who is Brian Fisher? Is it Derek and everyone in the media is wrong about the 3 pitcher thing? <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Told <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Astros?src=hash">#Astros</a> trading pitchers Vince Velasquez, Brett Oberholtzer and Brian Fisher to Phillies for closer Ken Giles, pending physicals.</p>— Mark Berman (@MarkBermanFox26) <a href="https://twitter.com/MarkBermanFox26/status/674762056575225856">December 10, 2015</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
Not a bad price considering the team control for next few years. I was scared at first, pleasantly shocked.
Giles, a 25-year-old from Albuquerque, New Mexico, will be entering his 3rd full season in the Majors in 2016. He was drafted in the 7th round in the 2011 by Philadelphia out of Yavapai College in Arizona. <script type="text/javascript" src="http://widgets.sports-reference.com/wg.fcgi?css=1&site=br&url=%2Fplayers%2Fg%2Fgileske01.shtml&div=div_pitching_standard"></script>
Brian Fisher pitched in 4 games for the Astros during the 1990 season. <script type="text/javascript" src="http://widgets.sports-reference.com/wg.fcgi?css=1&site=br&url=%2Fplayers%2Ff%2Ffishebr01.shtml&div=div_pitching_standard"></script>
25 years old. ERA under 2.00 Can throw over 100 mph but usually sits 97-99 mph. Gets a fair share of ground balls. He has a slider that is also elite. The Astros make this move expecting him to be a dominant/lights out closer. He is very animated and competitive. I would argue he has more value than Kimbrel or Chapman because he is under team control for 5 years at a low salary.
Scott Ciglinsky is a Philly radio guy. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">RHP Vince Velasquez, OF Derek Fisher and LHP Brett Oberholtzer are the pieces in the Ken Giles trade. <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Phillies?src=hash">#Phillies</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Astros?src=hash">#Astros</a></p>— Scott Ciglinsky (@ScottCiglinsky) <a href="https://twitter.com/ScottCiglinsky/status/674764329477009409">December 10, 2015</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
Dang. I was really hoping it was Holmes, not Fisher. But we can't be afraid to lose prospects, and I like Giles.
