I know this is not a big deal but do you see the rockets getting anymore new assistant coaches. Before the season we lost bill berry and if i'm not mistaken robert barr or was it someone else. what were those guys main jobs on the team and who did we end up replacing them with? was barr the one who was working out the hakeem deal then we said it wasn't happening and he left or was that jim boiling or what i'm trying to remember which two people we lost before the season can anyone help ------------------ Shane "Save Our Rockets" "Life without basketball in Houston........without an arena that is what it will be"
Bill Berry left for Chicago. Robert Barr left because of personal issues. He was more of a liason between players and the organization. He helped facilitate Barkley's deal, Pippen's deal and others. He is a VERY close friend of Rudy T. Keith Jones has essentially taken the place of Robert Barr with regards to talking to players, etc. He is well-respected among players in the league. Dennis Lindsay took his actual job title - he was formerly a video coordinator and scout - but Jones really is the one handling this stuff. The Rockets replaced Berry with Mike Wells. Wells had been with the Rockets for five years as the chief video coordinator. He and Lindsay worked on breaking down video for the team to look at. He had his first year as an assistant bench coach last season along with Jim Boylen, who handles the guards and Larry Smith, who hadles the big men. I doubt the Rockets will look to add anyone unless they lose someone. They are a very tight-knit group. ------------------ "No one gets out ALIVE!" SaveOurRockets.com
ya sounds good. jeff who is the one who worked on the hook shots etc with player smith or did CD do some of that also. i remmeber they always talked about one of the guys being a key part in harrington's improvement. the reason i brought up this issue is because with a young team like this i think maybe having a guy like eddie johnson or a recently retired player around the guys would help a lot. I WISH CLYDE WOULD BE INVOLVED WITH THE TEAM IN SOME CAPACITY BUT I GUESS HE IS PLANNING ON STAYING WITH FAMILY FOR A WHILE? ------------------ Shane "Save Our Rockets" "Life without basketball in Houston........without an arena that is what it will be"
CD is the guy that has taught the big men the jump hook among other low post moves. I think Clyde is content to avoid coaching for a while. As for shooting, etc, that is where Jim Boylen comes in. He has been terrific working with the guards on the team and developing their overall game. He played in college and is a long-time staffer with the Rockets. ------------------ "No one gets out ALIVE!" SaveOurRockets.com
I hope Hakeem sticks around as an assistant. ------------------ Rockets fans wanted at hoopsboards.com Draft Chat, NBA Chat, Team Chat, and more!
thanks for the help jeff. seems like a lot of the times the assistnat coaches don't get any attention when larry smith etc have key parts to do with the sucess of the team ------------------ Shane "Save Our Rockets" "Life without basketball in Houston........without an arena that is what it will be"
