I can't stand PF Changs. I think its more disgusting than Panda Express. However, every so many years, I try it again because of all the compliments I hear from my non-asian friends. I think to myself, maybe if I don't go in there without a preconceived notion of what Chinese food should taste like, I may see the light and understand all these people love it so much. And every time I go, I leave there thinking, why did I spend 30 dollars on that disgusting crap. So, do any Asian people actually enjoy PF Changs??
I've nver tried PF Changs but I have tried Lee Ann Chin's which from what I hear is pretty similar and that stuff is crap. I eat at Panda Express at airports everynow and then and while not great they are generally decent for fast food.
No. But usually when I go on a dinner date non-asian girls love that place so I try to enjoy it for what it is.... nice ambiance, good service (compared to most authentic chinese joints), clean. It's definitely not authentic but they have some decent dishes just not $15.00 an entree good.
Given how many authentic Chinese restaurants there are in Houston I'm sure you can find several that are clean and have good service.
^ I figure there is a ton of Chinese restaurants in Portland. I live in Minneapolis and I have no trouble finding authentic Chinese restaurants that I can take dates too.
Methinks non-Asians have been voting on your poll, for it to be 40-something% positive. Seriously? Stop lying. If you are Asian and you like PF Changs I don't know what to say. Go to Chinatown, pick a random hole in the wall, the dirtier the curtain the better, and close your eyes and then put your finger down on the menu like it's some Ouija board. Whatever you eat will be better than PF Changs. Or just say "I'll have what he/she's having." That works too. You know why I hate PF Changs? Because wallpaper tastes NASTY.
Non-asian here: PF Changs tastes the same as any other America style (is that the right term?) decent Chinese place IMO. Panda Express? Same. Super Gig em King China Buffet? Same.
I'm Chinese...never been to PF Chang's. The best authentic chinese food that I've found (not located in Bellaire) is a restaurant called "888 Chinese Restaurant." There's already two locations around Houston and a third opening in Clear Lake. They have a special menu with traditional chinese food (you have to ask for it and be able to read chinese) instead of the stereotypical americanized chinese dishes... Worth a try
PF Changs is okay, went a couple of times with American friends. Problem is the price. If I can get similar stuff for 50% the price why would I go there? And before you say the service and the ambiance, if I wanted to pay for that stuff, I might as well go to a place where the food can't be bought at half price elsewhere. In another words, I'd never *purposely* go there. But if someone else really wants to go, and will foot the bill... I'm game.
I have never been to PF Chang but I would much rather they sell inauthentic asian cuisine in that kind of setting than those saseme chicken in the mall.
