China beat Chinese Taipei 113-50 in Asian men's basketball

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BUSAN, Oct. 2 (Xinhuanet) -- The 2002 NBA top pick Yao Ming scored 22 points grabbed 13 rebounds to lift China over Chinese Taipei 113-50 Wednesday afternoon in a second round match of the Busan Asian Games men's basketball.

Going into the second half 55-30 ahead, China sealed their third straight victory at the tournament with a 13-0 burst opening the third quarter.

The 2.26-meter Yao shot 7-for-7 from the field and 4-for-6 from the line for 18 points in the first quarter, leading China into a 32-14 advantage.

Japan and the Philippines, who were in the same round-robin bracket with China and Chinese Taipei, will clash later Wednesday.

Top two finishers from the group will qualify for the semi-finals.

7'6 or not, 9-9 from the field is just amazing. The guy can put the ball in the hole.

Great times to be a Rockets fan :).

Here is another preliminary nickname for Yao:

    Mr. Perfect.

I'll push for it being the legit nickname once Yao gets a few perfect boxscores in the NBA. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

So this was the China National Team against Taipei (Taiwan)? Would this game have had special significance to China (at least, the government)?

And, yes, 9-9 is fairly impressive.

What on hell is he doing there? 5 mins a game then sitting on the bench watching the cheer leaders... Why could he come here for the trainning camp, be there one day for the final (which I guess will be held on oct. 14), get the champ, then back to Rox????

On another point...why do they need him so bad if they are whippin up on all the competition like this? He could be here learning the system instead of wasting his time beating up on inferior teams... Grrr...

Sorry. I don't know anything about Yang Yu Ming. I only knew that #13 of Taiwan, Tian Lei. Yao Ming said in his diary that this kid once dunked on Ming at CBA when Tian Lei played at Sina team.

I think China wanted him mainly for the game vs S Korea. All the other games don't matter.
