Just because you can find clips of her speaking like an average american ie code switching doesn't mean she never spoke like this. Code switching is something most people of color have done or do whether for a job or some social circle that's different. The people upset about this are goofy to me.

As a mild Awkwafina fan, I can say that I don't care at all. This isn't anything at all important.

Yes I commented, but that is because I'm a mild Awkwafina fan.

Do asian people ever talk that way for entertainment or amongst themselves or because they just can't speak good English? I just don't think it's the same. I mean ESL and ebonics aren't the same thing and her accent is from where she grew up. She's not making fun of black people. I don't understand the fuss.

The first time I heard about cultural appropriation I didn't take it seriously and I still don't. If the american experiment is ever going to work then people need to relax. We're never going to be one otherwise. She's not the enemy.

When I see day of the dead attire being all over the place I'm not offended. I think it's cool somebody else thinks it's cool.

I can't call someone's offense based on my not being offended by a similar thing.

I think the majority of celebrities who are apologizing for something that made them money
are just doing it for PR reasons

I don't care about the n-word. People saying the n-word is not racism.

Saying black people are apes and that they have different brains is 500x worse than someone saying the n-word in a rap song.

but it's her right and choice to do whatever movies she wanted. The scene that's in question was a movie nobody saw, the female Oceans 11.
All those people on the movie, director, actors, the company were fine with it

in the end, it's about MONEY

if it makes her 'different' than Margaret Cho, the @Carl Herrera of Asian comedians

that should be a good thing

And it is my and every other black person's right to think she is a scumbag for it
It is all right to not support her and to think everyone who does is a scumbag too
    and
it is her whole career before becoming "big"

I agree, but she's not the first non Black person to use 'urban' culture to advance her career.
there's also no law against it because it's impossible to prove or enforce.

And my opinion, I wouldn't group all Black people together in terms of accents and vernacular.

Vernon and Hakeem arguing is two very different usage of accent and vocabularly

People can have different accents, depending on to whom or where they're speaking. It can even be involuntary. I have a number of cousins who grew up abroad who switch between an American accent and their native accent depending on who they are conversing with. They do it because that's what is most comfortable for them.

Maybe this person is the same way. She's adopted hip hop as her art form, and so in that persona she speaks like other hip hop artists she is familiar with. How many times do you see non-black basketball players speaking with a black accent? Or non-black hip hop artists? It doesn't seem to me to be that uncommon.

According to Joe Rogan it was racist and he wished he never said it.

I bet he wishes people would stop defending something he apologized for.

You know, that's the thing, most of the outrage is that people are defending it. How many people defended Whoopi's comments?

You guys are doing him a disservice by continuing to defend the racist things he's said and have condemned instead of letting him move on. The only reason we're still talking about Joe Rogan's racism is because you keep bringing it up along with so many of his other fans that swear it wasn't racist and he shouldn't even apologize for.
