I was just curious as to whether there is a rational scenario in which we could use our $4.2M trade exception to gather in a decent PF (David Lee?) or SG in the AI sweepstakes without sacrificing one of our players or draft picks.

you talking about being a 3rd team, right? not actually receiving AI, but being a player in his trade?

there's no way we can just get David Lee with just trade exception.

i wish some people would get the picture, why would the knicks want to trade david lee? i know that isiah thomas has made some pretty bad decisions in the recent years, but lee is one of the only bright spots to that team. if u had lee, would u trade him? don't think so.

don't get me wrong, if somehow that would happen, i would welcome david lee to the rockets with open arms

I would throw our TE a first round pick and a scrub to be named later for david lee

I'd like to nominate a "Trade Proposal" forum once again to keep this rubbish off the NBA and GARM forums.

Lee has too much value right now. the guy was ripping the boards against the rockets in game two. he would fit perfectly.

Getting Lee would mean letting go Hayes. We cannot afford to have 2 garbage collectors.

Anybody who thinks we can get David Lee without getting rid of a player named Yao and/or one named Tracy is fooling themselves, because his value right now is higher than any one or combination of remaining player on the Rockets. If I'm the knicks I prefer Lee to Battier and/or Head/Hayes, the only other non-negative trade value commodities the Rox have.

We can have them both if Hayes continues to get 3 fouls in the first quarter of the game. Having 2 ppl that are almost identical is great, that spot on the roster never changes. The question is does Lee > Howard?

Lee is not a garbage collector. I like Hayes a lot, but I think Lee got much higher ceiling then Hayes.

There's no question that Lee is better than Howard is now, lol. Would love to have him, but it ain't happening. The stupidity of the Knicks has to have reached rock bottom by now.

Did anybody notice I put a ? after David Lee? That was not a specific, just a "for example." Our TE is dying on the vine. I'm just curious if we can use it to help ourselves benefit from the Iverson fiasco. And, no, I don't want AI -- he's waaaay too expensive.

I bet if we threw in a 2nd round pick we could upgrade to Tommy Lee.

i've agreed with this for a loooong time. nothing against the thread starter, because it is a good question. it's just that the GARM is often littered with trade proposals that are not very well thought out and, as such, have zero chance of going through. putting all the trade threads - good and bad - in one forum would really clean up the GARM. maybe we could call it "Potential Roster Moves" since, IMO, the RM in GARM should be reserved for actual roster moves.

When does the TE expire? And do we still have all of it? It is a good question.

Please read more carefully. This is not a player trade proposal. It is a question about the possibility of using our TE to facilitate the AI trade in a way that is useful to the Rockets. It is NOT a proposal to trade for AI, and I made a huge mistake by including David Lee's name. It was just an example. I should know by now that some of our posters do not read carefully (AI Trade Facilitator Only). Thanks.

I don't think the TE would be that good a facilitator, but it is hard to tell without looking at the nitty-gritty of a particular proposed deal. They loosened up the salary-matching requirements with the last CBA, so using the TE to help match salaries doesn't seem as urgent. The TE seems better suited to big trades in which the Rockets would be a primary player (like the way it was used in the Francis/McGrady trade).
