You elected the right guy. If there was ever a time to elect someone like Barack Obama, it is now. Dubya has been the laughing stock of the world for over half a decade and if there were a republican win last night, I would have lost complete faith in the American people. I could forgive not electing John Kerry the last time around because he was such a weak candidate (much like Stefanne Dion of the Canadian Liberal party) but Barack Obama is a very strong candidate, so there were no excuses this time.

I've been predicting an Obama landslide for a while, but up until last night, there was always a little bit of fear because "you never know what those Americans might do." Most of my family thought McCain would win this election. But, the people came through in the end and proved them wrong. Congratulations. :)

I would be interested to know how Obama interacts with our ultra-conservative, sweater-wearing Prime Minister, Steven Harper.

In el salvador, the elite are dissapointed that mccain didn't win. No money for ARENA =)

In spain, comrade zapatero alias Mr. Bean, has said, " The U.S will have a loyal friend and ally in spain." (He's been labeled dangerous by the bush administration)

Basso's sarkosy: " Obama's message of hope will reach out to europe and the rest of the world." (is sarkosy flip flopping?)

Comrade mandela:" We have taken note and applaud his quest for peace. And in him we trust, that he will help in the battle against poverty and sickness." (sounds like terrorist talk from mandela)

I left out the quotes from merkel and Brown, simply because I don't trust them.

Am I the only one offended by the paternalism inherent in non-Americans saying they are proud of us?

ARENA benefits from their business hands in government, but much better than FMLN and the alternative. There is a reason why El Salvador has the best economy in central America.

1.) Stable Currency by switching to the dollar

2.) Stable Business Environment for businesses

FMLN would take away the stronger economy and make it look like Nicaragua or Honduras.

Why don't you pour some more maple syrup on those fresh logs you chopped down with your hockey stick!

Just kidding, its always nice to hear something positive from a foreigner, even if it is from America Lite.

I know fade personally and he is a stand-up guy, so some of you should back off in attacking him. It is his opinion that the US was in the ****ter and he's right to a degree.

One question, though, for you fade - Obama is the junior senator from Illinois; he is not some seasoned, veteran politician. Why do you think he was such an "obvious" choice because he is not George W Bush or is it really something else?

I am supporting Obama because as an American, I really have no choice but I am extremely worried that with his lack of experience in foreign affairs that some country like Russia or Iran or North Korea or any of the other 4 billion countries that hate us will try to push us around.

This is why I love America.

Even after a hard-fought, emotional election, we can still band together to tell a Canadian to go **** himself.

Quit being a bunch a aholes!

Instead, be PROUD that the world is standing up and looking to America as a leader.

If you are in charge, you don't take a dump on your supporters. We need the world just like the world needs us. America doesn't stand alone anymore in this global economy. Instead, America can shining example of what is possible.

Everybody is happy. Quit taking a crap on the parade.

    geeze.

I'm not taking a crap on anything. But they're not standing up and looking to us as a leader if they're patting us on the head for doing something most of them haven't done yet.

I'm not saying the OP is a bad guy at all.

American's with this attitude are why the rest of the world is fed up with us. America is a part of a global neighborhood and we should respect each other. Our policies, foriegn and domestic, as well as our economy impact the rest of the world's lives and well being. They have a vested interest in what we do and the leaders that we elect.

Fade, I appreciate the gesture and kind words. I sincerely do. I'm for the first time in a long time optimistic about the future of our country. I have not been proud to be an American in several years, last night that changed.

It's one thing to say you're happy with the decision the American people made. It's another to say you're proud of the American people's decision. It may just be my own belief but it smacks of paternalism. I could be reading too much into it, I suppose.

For those of you ticked off, you have to take this as praise ultimately.

People around the world don't really follow the Canadian election; Canada can only have a certain impact on the rest of the planet.

The US of A, however, will definitely have a huge impact. Everyone acknowledges that, from our detractors to our fans. If we get a little love from the rest of the world, shore up some bridges to other places, that's only going to help us in a leadership role that we definitely inhabit, to some extent, whether we want it or not.

So they can't just "go watch a hockey game," when their economy, their environment, and their national peace are so very tied to ours.

If you accept that Bush wasn't that good, I think you have to acknowledge that his effect wasn't localized to our nation.
