    BAD BLOOD?

When the Utah Jazz played the Rockets last week, Houston was called for two illegal defense violations early in the game, whereupon Rockets coach Rudy Tomjanovich asked the referees to meet with him and Jazz
    coach Jerry Sloan.

Sloan apparently wasn't amused. Clipboard in hand, Tomjanovich talked to the officials and John Stockton took the technical foul free throw. The officials wanted the Jazz represented at their meeting with Rudy T., but Sloan declined. He sent assistant Kenny Natt to midcourt. During a stoppage in play a few minutes later, Sloan shouted at referee Hank Armstrong, "Can we have a conference with the coaches so they can tuck their shirts into their pants?" Want to know the probable reason for Sloan's pique? He was an assistant under Lenny Wilkens when Wilkens coached the 1996 U.S. Olympic team in Atlanta, and a lot of NBA types thought Sloan was ticketed to be head coach of the U.S. team in Sydney. But Tomjanovich got the job, and some of Sloan's friends suspected Rudy T. played some politics to get it.

We think the ultra-competitive Sloan has a long memory.

Class A jerk-off. He probably can't accept the fact that Rudy has always been a better coach.

What a classless jerk! Just like Malone, all he cares about are personal accolades. He can win all the regular season games, and first round and conference final games he wants against Rudy T in recent years, Rudy beat him when it counts, and being ringless is grating on Sloan.

This seems ridiculous. I'm supposed to believe Sloan's jealousy over the Olympic head-coaching job inspired him to remark on how our players don't have their shirts tucked in? Couldn't it be that he wants the refs to just enforce the rule that players need to have shirt-tails tucked in? I suppose that's too easy to be true.

Rudy got the job because Rudy was a hero. Doesn't anyone remember when Rudy coached the kids at the World games in '98 during the lockout? Noone else would. Noone else wanted to go through the trouble.

F@#k Sloan and his bull@#$t John Deere philosophies. If anything, he should be ashamed that he expected to be handed the coaching job "b/c he assisted under Lenny". Who cares? Wanna do some work when the country needs it? Nooooo....

What a loser. At the end of this year, when the Titanic starts to sink (Stockton retires), I'm taking everyone out to celebrate the beginning of the end of how 'basketball was never meant to be'.

But anyway JV, even though he's JV [IMG], is probably right... there's no causal connection from one comment to the next. This has been brought up before, however, in the local SLC press... numerous times.

I didn't like Sloan as a player and I don't like him as a coach. He is a throwback to an era in coaching basketball best forgotten.

Rudy T got the coaching job because he's a better coach and a better man than sloan. It's that simple.
