It is a topic raised in the insiders blog on ESPN. It states that Ron Artest will be traded this offseason most likely for no value. That peaked my intrest in the former defensive player of the year and 20ppg scorer. The artical did state that the Lakers might share intrest with a few other teams across the league. Now I fully understand that this has the potential to be a move that explodes in our faces but I really believe we are at a crossroads. Our dilema is not a great one all we must do is ask ourselves is the risk (artest being a nutcase and not helping us win) outweighed by the reward (a team with 3 top 15 talents and a shot to win multiple titles) and I think their is no question this is the right move for us. If we do not make a big move this offseason with a Pg or a big time player we will not win a title anyway so what does it really matter if this move does not work. Our team would be stacked with the addition of Artest which would most likely come with the only expense being JHO or possibly some combination of expiring deals. Our lineup could be: Rafer (with a top flight backup coming for some of the MLE) Mac Battier Artest ( he could easily guard pf's with his massive size and defensive skill) Yao You have a roster with 3 all stars which is the way teams are winning these days.
If this is true then I think we should movie Shane to the bench or move T-Mac to PG. It would work better if we got Artest, and still went after a big pf and another slasher/shooter to the basket.
If you do it, you've got to keep Van Gundy. I don't know of another coach with a better track record of making use of talented knuckleheads.
If JVG is still the coach, he will never want Artest. JVG cant coach Bonzi, how can he coach Artest. I think Artest to Lakers for Kwame Brown is a good possibility this summer. Kobe+Artest+Lamar looks real good.
I love that guy even tho he is not right in his mind, he plays with intensity and passion I am not sure if JVG could coach him, we might see another Bonzi case so I'm up for Bibby, Adelman and Artest
Most definantly my thoughts are completly pending Van Grumpys gone. Which most everyone on the outside world seems to think he will be.
Definitely. Having Artest will bring back Bonzi. If they are coached by Aldeman, could Bibby be far behind? PG: Bibby, Rafer SG: Bonzi, Tmac SF: Tmac, Artest, Battier PF: Artest, Battier, Hayes C: Yao Ming, Mutombo
No, JVG would love Artest. Artest is a JVG-type player. He plays his heart out, he defends his ass off, he plays within himself, efficiently, on offense, and he responds well to coaching. I can see JVG throwing himself between Artest and someone he wants to punch already.
Lets get Artest, but do we have Cap room for him. I think if we did get him he has great potential in Houston. The problem with Bonzi is he distanced himself from the team and never bonded with his teamates. I think the team has great chemistry and if Artest is introduced to the team in the right way it will be GREAT SUCCESS!
This is hillarious... just one year ago, the very same people here praising the move were preaching "end of the world" scenarios if the team ever got Artest. I've always loved his talent... and I always thought we needed a guy like him.
We could probably give up a draft pick and JHO. Jho and Artest have nearly identiacal contracts. Artest when right is a vastly underpaid player making only 7mil per. I think what makes this most appealing is the fact that Artest makes reasonable money and he is a great player who would come at a very low price from Sac-town.
I don't know why people are comparing Artest to Bonzi. Fact is Artest works hard on the court, and Bonzi is just some lazy ass who expects superstar treatment.
