http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=cnnsi-ridinghigh&prov=cnnsi&type=lgns Its at the bottom. He said he was the best player on the league's team w/ the best record. I personally think he's looney if he thinks that. Jermaine O'Neal is the focal point of that team. PERIOD.
Yeah just like he showed everyone he was the league's best defensive player in the playoffs.....If i'm not mistaken.
SLAM magazine = National Enquirer of Sports Journalism. I'll believe Artest said this (and seriously meant it) as readily as I'll believe that space aliens have abducted Elvis and changed him into Dick Cheney and plan to take over the world.
BWAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Come back and talk to us when you've been double-teamed for the first time Ron. Oh wait - you don't want to wait that long? They aren't double-teaming you because they don't respect you? Or maybe you're just deferring to your teammates? I've got a new nickname for Ron - Dr.Demento. I'm sure his teammates are going to love hearing him say that he's the best player on the team.
The quotation marks lead me to believe this was straight out of Ron-Ron's mouth. SLAM certainly encourages people to be boastful (the Tracy McGrady issue a couple years ago was as arrogant as it gets), but quoting someone is different than writing something like: Ron Artest believes he's the best player on the best team in the league. In fact, he thinks he's the league MVP!. Marty Burns isn't the type to run with BS and include it in his column, either. Was this a product of SLAM getting Ron going more than Artest coming to their offices with something to get off his chest? Probably. But I 99.99% believe they reported the words that came out of his mouth. Evan
But the quotes don't even match what the writer says. There is a difference between these two statements: "Pacers forward Ron Artest says he should have been MVP" and Artest saying "I felt that I should have at least been talked about for it" It's not that crazy to think that he could have been CONSIDERED one of the top 10 candidates, though it is a stretch. More bizarre is the notion that he's better than Jermaine O'Neal. But heh, guys sometimes have bizarre thoughts when it comes to evaluating their own game. "
