I just wanted read people's thoughts strictly on these two players. Let's leave aside that if we signed Artest to similar money, we could have saved our MLE.

Would you rather have Ariza at the currently reported deal (32 million for 5 years) or Artest at a similar salary?

ariza. younger, more athletic, can grow with the young core, fills a need, and still has the ability to develop offensively.

for the same price, ariza is still on the upswing whereas ron is on the downside of his career.

Why didn't the Rockets do a sign-and-trade with the Lakers?

It could have saved both teams their MLE. We had Artest's bird rights right? I don't know about Ariza's situation. Hmm..

    Ariza since we are rebuilding.

If the injury to Yao would not have happened I would rather have Artest but unfortunately that was not the case.

Ariza. Why give the money and years to Ron when there is no Yao and is no T-Mac? And it looks like he was destined to leave either way. As one mentioned in the CD show thread, Ron is all talk.

Artest is a piece you add to a championship caliber team to put you over the top....what we thought we were doing last offseason.

The Rockets aren't in that position...they're better served by a younger guy...every move they make now needs to be as much about the future as it is about next season.....if not more so.

    Welcome to the new reality.

Since we're in the limbo of contending and rebuilding, I think Ariza is wayy more suited for our style of play now.

Ron was good, because we had a heavy anchor in the middle, in Yao. Since we play half court offense, Ron was a better player in that system.

However, we just lost that anchor for at least half a season. We can now play run 'n' gun very sucessfully. Ariza can be taught how to cut/move without the ball a la Richard Hamilton.

Plus, Artest is 29, and not getting any younger. I'd rather have Ariza for 5 more years, than Artest for 5.

This was a very, very good pickup in my opinion. Not only did we nab Ariza, but other players might see some hope in coming here, now that a player from the champion's team has come here.

I like Ariza. I'm not sure about his game yet, but the fact that he's young and that he took Houston's offer and turned down another offer worth 9 million more was suprising. Houston is definitely a place to get respect (except for McGrady, who had respect but blew it). I believe Ariza will score double digits next year and Aaron Brooks will be leading scorer. Book it! :D

What would be missed with Ron is his low post moves. (which He seldom uses) Trevor is a better shooter but can He carry this to the Rockets? Can He rebound like Ron?

    I voted for Ariza.

The good news about our line up next year is, WE DON'T HAVE A BALL HOG.

Tmac is out, and Artest is gone... we'll see the ball moving more...

And with Yao out, we'll be running more... Now sign up Amare and we'll be partying....

    Yeehah!!!

Ariza Ariza Ariza. Younger, more athletic, room to get better, will be a good team player.

No doubt Ariza is younger, more althelete and a better shooter. The only thing I don't like of him is his quiet. I think we need someone like Artest, who can bring the toughness and enthusiasm to the team. Under the current situation, I admit Ariza is the best choice for our team. But I don't like the long contract.
