Anyone live in this part of The Heights? A coworker lives a block from one of these fires. Weird that the arsonist would confine himself to such a small area.

[rquoter]Two more fires burn in Heights

Two more fires have broken out in the Heights this morning, the latest in a rash of blazes that have struck a small part of the neighborhood.

The first occurred about 3:50 a.m. on 12th Street near Nicholson, and a man watching from his bicycle was arrested on a drug charge and held as a "person of interest" in the fire that destroyed a home.

However, a second fire on 9th Street between Waverly and Ashland was reported around 5:50 a.m. Like the first one today, and like many of the nine previous blazes in recent weeks, both homes that burned were unoccupied.

Before today, all the other fires had occurred along Ashland between 10th and 11th streets. Today's fires were within three blocks of the previous blazes.

District Chief Arthur Broussard said both fires appeared suspicious, and the second one appeared to start near an exterior staircase. Firefighters put it out within 15 minutes.

"It's pretty brazen, pretty brazen," he said of the second fire starting such a short distance from where firefighters and police were still on the scene of the first one.

Nicole Shanahan, who lives next door to the second fire scene with her three young children, said she smelled smoke this morning, saw it billowing from a vacant home next door and called 911.

Antonio Quintanilla, who lost a tool shed in one of the first fires, watched firefighters attack the 11th blaze of the spate.

"It's crazy to believe it's real," he said. "This is unbelievable."

At the first fire, Manuela Fly said her husband woke up to the sound of breaking glass and looked out their window to see fire shooting out of the house across the street. By the time she called 911 the dispatcher said several others had reported it.

"It was quite alarming," said Fly, who already had been concerned because of the nearby fires.

No one has been killed or seriously injured in the arson fires, which have prompted the offering of a Crime Stoppers reward.[/rquoter]

I have a friend who lives accross the street from the house on Ashland. From my understanding, that same house was set on fire 3 times.

Ah yes Arsons in the Heights. Great spinach dip and decent happy hour. The clientele is a little douchey though.
