Okay, Dream's not going anywhere... at least not in a trade.

So what was going to happen before?

    What was the handshake deal?

What was the deal that would have been an 'ass kicker for us'?

This is the one week anniversary of last week's announcement. Can we have closure? It'd be fun learning about the stupid team that was actually going to bail the Rockets out. [IMG]

I can't tell you who my source is, but this was the deal....

houston trades: Kelvin Cato $5,333,333 to lakers (BYC Value $2,666,667)
houston trades: Hakeem Olajuwon $16,700,000 to lakers
    TOTAL: $22,033,333

lakers trades: Shaquille O'Neal $19,285,716 to houston
    TOTAL: $19,285,716

    TRADE ACCEPTED

Due to houston and lakers being over the cap, the 15% trade rule is invoked. houston and lakers had to be no more than 115% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

ugh... this doesn't even seem funny anymore... [IMG]

No way we make that trade. It would have been a big PR fodder mistake.

Little girl? Hmm... by the way JuanValdez, I thought you sided with NewGuy, you know... your new source? The guy who said nothing was going on a few days before Hakeem went public.

You would think if he talked to someone legit (or talked to anyone at all instead of making it up) that little tidbit of info would have been applicable.

I have no problem with people requesting info, but NewGuy and JuanValdez' posts were just lame, and they know it.

I would never have initially posted if I wasn't told just that. Handshake deal, could take a little time but a deal is going to go down. I was told Hakeem was extremely upset and he wasn't going to play for the Rockets any longer, that he was demanding a move. I know JuanValdez thinks this is "old news", but I thought it was amazing it had come to this. Which is where "brace yourself" came in to play. It had little, if anything, to do with who we would get.

I was even told the deal could happen as soon as that first Tuesday... instead he went on the IR that day. Monday night Rudy and Hakeem wouldn't comment on him possibly going on the IR. Hakeem says he's ready to play. Looks a little fishy, don't you think?

From there there have been a lot of scenarios considered, but never once was I told this first handshake deal wasn't going to go down. I don't get updates as often as I like, no matter how much I request them. I think I've gotten one in the past 6 days and I was asked not to even breathe that one. When I get stuff I can pass along I will drop everything else and post it.

I don't know specifically what "Doc Rocket" mentioned by the first "ass kicker"... maybe I do but don't know it. I know there were discussions going on he hasn't told me about.

My hunch is things are still going on... I would think if Hakeem was definitely going to be a Rocket then Les would have no problems saying that much. Hakeem said they went over different options.

If nothing ends up happening when it's over then I'll apologize, but I would hope this news would more than vindicate this wasn't some BS post I made up a few weeks ago.

You know, I think that GM trading program has given us to much power! [IMG] As for the mysterious deal, I would like to know, and I would like to NOT know! Obviously it would be nice to know, but if I did know and it was as good as advertise I don't think I could sleep for the next year. . .

Didn't Doc also say something about the scenarios that didn't go down would be revealed if a deal hadn't been made by midweek (last week?)

Oh well. Something tells me though, this isn't over, yet.

We won't even know for sure till the trade deadline, or maybe even after. Isn't there a separate deadline for playoff rosters to be set?

Let me be the first one to read too much into a comment taken out of context...hehe. We get so little opportunity to overread every trade word writtent by our sources: Pops, Clutch, Doc and that mall kid.

So, let's imagine for a second that a handshake deal went down. OK, what the hell are the waiting on; someone to go buy some pen and paper? I think it is very reasonable to asume that the other team is waiting on the trade deadline DAY. Why would anyone take Hakeem earlier when all they want him for is defense in the playoffs? I say the other team does not want Dream injured, and they want us to spend the games getting him in shape.

If the other team has to match salaries, then why lose games from lack of players waiting for Dream to get back in shape.

    btw: has anyone seen grummett?

    Hey Clutch,

Thanks for the clarification, it helps. I think that the longer we went without any additional responses on the subject from you or Doc Rocket, the more frustrated we (or at least I) became & the more bizarre our scenarios became.

If I had to guess what went down in the meeting, I'd guess that Les told Dream that he would attempt to get a deal worked out that would allow Dream to go to a contender this year, but that he needed Dream to help out. That might explain the great game Dream had last night, Les's refusal to emphatically state that Dream was staying here, & the fact that Dream hasn't had much, if anything, to say since. It would seem that they are working on driving Dreams trade value up. If Dream continues to keep quiet & plays like he did last night, then I'm going to assume that this is a fair assumption. But, who knows.

ah, so that's what it was! [IMG]

How come no one has started a thread with a poll of where Hakeem is headed (Phoenix, Miami or somewhere else).

Also, there are only a handful of teams that fit the description of Dream's desired location, so there won't be 12 potential teams trying to get a better deal presented to the Rockets.

Playing shape? More likley this is showcasing to see if he can give an effective 20 minutes a game without too much difficulty and no further medical problems.

    Two questions to pose:

    1. Do you think the other team(s) already had a preliminary physical done on Dream while he was on IR?

    2. Are the Rockets or the other team(s) in control of this situation? Buyers market versus Sellers market situation.

    Simpsons quote.

As I've already said, I'm just letting it go. I appreciate the update. I hope you don't sink completely into silence again on this subject. Maybe I'll attack you again after the trade deadline. [IMG] Well, I suppose I need to wait for the deadline for a team to add a player they want on the playoff roster. That's somewhere in March, isn't it?

Warm weather climate? Phoenix or Miami. The former by trade. The latter by waive.

Since the Rockets seriously want to get to the playoffs---good luck---I don't foresee waiving Dream. Of course it could happen. But I don't know. Hakeem himself said we should get what we can for him.

Why worry whether or not he's cold? Or gets another ring? He makes 16 million dollars this year. He can afford central heat and mittens.

I still say Vancouver. Let him worry next year about where he wants to play back-up center. (But only if we can find a taker for Reeves. Miami. In exchange for Miami's last-contract-year detritus? Majerle/Ceballos/Green.)

They are trying to sell season tickets and you suggest that Dream has no input on this matter?

They don't need any negative PR and doing as you suggest will definitely create some.
